Jeremy, I would think it would as I am pretty sure Steve builds from the Newton plans as well. Just keep tuned in...there will be frame pics!!!! Mike

I got my 85 Bubble Bud in the mail today. It took me all of about 6 minutes to piece it together. Great fit. Should be an easy build. Now I just have to find a way to keep it on the water...lol

Thanks again Mike

good now finish it and have it ready to go next year, would love to see it following mine across the finish line.

Mike, both my kits arrived today. Everything looks great, can't wait to get started. Hopefully I'll be able to work on it this weekend.

Now you have the T5/T6 hull done! Shouldn't you be busy at work.lol. Now, I have to add that one to the list.

I'll give you a call, seriously I need several more kits. :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't yours only cross the line one time this year. That is not much of a goal...lol

Don't worry, if I can get a cowl done it will be ready.

Mike

Glad you like the kits John! Let me know if you have any questions.

Buddy, The Renault plans are next on the list. I just have to decide if I want to fill some requests for these 1/6th and 1/6.66 scale hulls. I really don't know what I am going to do about that. Its kind of a pain that the FE guys want one scale, and the gas guys want another. I may only offer the gas size cause the 1/6th scale is just getting to big. Just keep a lookout for the Renault tho! Mike

My vote would be for more of these in the 1/10th scale, sport 40 size, I think there would be a good market for them, there aren't many sport 40 options out there. Rick

Well, The problem with the 1/10th scale hulls, is they will not be competitive against a true sport 40. Another problem, is the electric 1/10th scale clubs want to run the same direction as the full size boats, so everything on the hull has to be done backwards. That makes things really frustrating. The 1/6th scale the electric guys want is just way to big and another problem is the frame cross members end up getting spaced to far apart. Also, like the 1/10th scale electrics guys, the 1/6th scale electric run the same direction as the full size. All of this adds up to a nightmare for me! Its just not time or cost effective for me to do all these different versions. It also makes the 1/6th electric and GAS guys cowlings non interchangeable, so that makes growing that part of the sport even harder. I honestly think that is a dumb move not working together with these large scales and deciding on one size. I am thinking about just offering the 1/8th scale and the GAS 20% over scale. I have a lot of thinking to do! Mike

Acording to master hull roster, 9601 makes the T5 Bud or U7 Formula, 0001 makes the T6 Bud or the U5 Formula, and 0203 makes the U3 Cooper boat. So which plan was this based off of? Not sure what differences there are besides offset of cockpit, cowling though.

Well, the 172-A plans, which is what I used, call this the 9601, but Roger put on the plans, T3,T5 and T6. I did however, use pictures of the T6 to work out a lot of the small details. I found these pics: http://www.gatjens.com/2002t6/t6.htm.

The T5 and T6 frames were never separated out in plans I don't think, so this is the best we can do. Mine is also a center cowling, not offset. I know the T6 looks to be centered, not sure about the T5. The sponsons, and non trips were done to the T6 design as well, again, not sure what a T5 would look like.

Mike

Oh, and the 203 Cooper, well, it uses the same framing sheet as the Bud 9601 172 plans. No differences in the sheets!!

Mike: I agree with you on the classes not having a standard in the size and direction that they run. If I was to run 1/8 scale and then electric I would have a hard time getting used to racing two different directions, that would be a challenge. I think you are doing a fantastic job on these kits and it looks like everyone is keeping you busy with all the work. I understand that the 1/10 scale hulls would not have the same hull design as some of the newer sport 40 hulls, but I think that the traditional looking hulls are better looking. Rick

so everything on the hull has to be done backwards. Mike
So what. They will just have to put the hull together backwards. Left on the right and right on the left. Should be a piece of cake. They are all ready using the plans from newton to build boats. Problem solved.

Mike

Well, there is more to it than that. I will just put the 1/8th scales first, gas scales second, and when I have time I will work on others. I just would rather not offer it if I cannot get someone a kit ready in a reasonable timeframe. Its not fair to the buyer. I am learning just how frustrating the wait is on my driver and accessories order right now. Been waiting 3 months, yet the money was requested up front. I don't want to have that kind of reputation. I want relatively quick turn around times to my buyers or I won't offer it! I can only do so much and would rather offer one or two scales and know the buyer will get there kits asap instead of making empty promises. That may sound crazy, but good, quick service means a lot to me as its what I expect when I send out my money to others. These are the things I think about when I offer up a service. Its the way I have always been! Mike

'83-84 Renault framing is done. Also makes the '91 Edge.

Winston Lobster is next........

Any build progress on the 172-A framing(pics) yet? Getting excited at trying my hands at building one of these. :)

Jeremy, the frame kit order has been sent to my laser guy, so once I get the frame back, the build will begin! Mike

Just so everyone knows, we did not get that big job at work like I was hoping we would, so kit orders will stay the same as usual. Not sure if that's a good thing tho..Might have to find another job if things don't start looking up....

Got my frames yesterday and they look great. Building will start in about a month.

Thanks,

Buddy
