having owned a few lathes over the years and seeing what they have to offer(they have an outlet just around the corner)I'd rather find one thats 40 yrs old and built to last than the new stuff made in malaysia,or wherever they get that stuff.

Go to HF at the cornner of Montague Ave. and Dorchester Rd. right behind the bank, in the right hand cornner of the shopping center. They have a few different types ie: combo lath and mill , mini lath and mini mill . They will match price's and for a little extra you get a life time warranty!!! Anything goes wrong just return it to the store and get a brand new one. No questions asked !!!!!!! I got a small compressor and for $5.00 got the life time warranty !!!!!

Haven't been doing a lot !!!! I'm waiting on the surgical rotation to come up at the first of the year !!!! I have 4 small ligements holding my arms on !!!!!! All the cartlidge has separated from my arm bone and from my shoulder blade!!! I have a 1/2" gap between the bones and the cartlidge!!!!! :( :blink: MUSC want's to make the operation a teaching tool !!!! {movie} Trident Sports Medicine said it is the worst they have ever heard of :eek: Six to eight months in a sling and cast, then the other arm !!!!! " ALL THIS FROM TRYING TO BE HERCULES " in the weight room in 1978/79.

My tunnels are haul'in !!!! MY LUCK STINKS !!!!!!!!

Hey Vic that Hass looks a lot like a Cinn. that I run at TAC CNC. before I stoped working I ran Mazaks for 18 + years . Now just make small stuff in the bassmant on my brigeport and the sherline set-up I have .

Back to the cheep setup drill chucks are not made for side forces . If you are looking for some thing cheep look in to sherline Each can be had for around 500.00 for mill and lathy. or check to see if Smithy is still arouind. Scott

Hey Scott;

Nice to hear from another machinist. I've been doing it since highschool. 24 years now. That Haas has some extra goodies, 300psi through spindle coolant, 20hp spindle, and 4th axis! I've played around with it doing some VERY custom engraving on maglite flashlights. surrounding the lettering with an elipse and machine away all the "background" leaving the lettering anodized. Way Cool!! I also have a Hitachi Sieki CNC lathe, what a hotrod!! 1200 ipm rapid and 5000rpm spindle!!

Hey Joe;

lathe operators have no vises!!

get it,,, lathes have chucks, mills have vises. heheheheh

i realize the 813-b drilpress in not a mill but it cost $40 new. at that price i can make it pay for it self while saving up for a real machine.

Hey Guys,

I have been Machining for along time. All I can say is be carefull with putting an endmill in a drill chuck, they are held on by a locking taper. Side pressure an chatter will cause it to come loose from the taper an spin off from the spindle. Now you have a 2-3 pound object with a dead sharp cutter sticking out spinning 500 plus RPM's headed for your foot or hands or body. This could get ugly fast. Just buy a small mill with a R-8 spindle taper an all this goes away.It's not worth getting hurt.

PB, that was about the best piece of advice in this whole string. Thanks - now I have an excuse to go buy the collet set I wanted! :p
