I agree Marty, I would rather run 3 or 4 big races a year with more entries per class than district races where your lucky to get 5 or 6 boats. Back in the day we ran a district race almost every month and we ran club races between Jacksonvillle, Orlando and Edgewater every month and had good turnouts for both, club races were a blast, of course this was when it was only nitro, we usually finished in time to have fun races after everything was done. Cal Lange and I had a runoff at Orlando one year and I got watered down at buoy 1, so the next race at Lakeland we ran a grudge match after the races just for fun, you can't do that now hardly. That's was Cal's Super Tigre/K&B rear rotor .21, he had some fast boats but didn't always like to turn. I beat him in the rematch, he was way off on the clock, lol, his 21 was fast back then though.
Mark:

Exactly correct.

I also remember Cal Lang and had some races with him. Not as many as you since I was in Indiana, but he was fast. Even shared the info about his engine and I built one like his. He and Larry Beals were really good friends. I understand he lives someplace around here, but I haven't seen him. Maybe he will show up sometime.
He stops by my shop from time to time . He lives in Palm Harbor . I bought Cals 21 Coyote with the Super Sigre X 15

rear disc setup and ran it for years . I still have the original 19 series prop that he used .He is retired and in great shape but boreds . i will get him over to this race to hang out .

I remember Arthur running that lay down motor in his rigger! It had to be '83 or '84.
I was building a Coyote 21 and recently joined the NE FLA Gator Dodgers...

That was a while ago...

GOOD TIMES!

Gator Dodgers was a great and very active club in those days! Many very knowledgeable modelers. Some that came from the full size boat racing world and some that came from the control-line speed ranks such as A.T Wright and Stan Simpson III.

Joe Petro reminded me of when my dad was the third needle...I would bring the mono in,dad would have a screw driver in his mouth. He would grab the boat running, adj. needle throw her back in and on our way. In those days that was the norm... I learned to drive from the 10 min. races back in the day. Like Mark Ham said...those days the whole family would be out racing. 15 District races a year, plus monthly club races. Hoping these Nitro only races might help bring the crowds back, the people are out there. I havent made the Hobart race yet. Looking forward to 2016 and race more up North...

Jacksonville was the perfect lake for catch and release, plenty of room and knee deep water, salvaged many heats like that, hell, back then you could even bring it back to shore and restart it.

Just for something different, I have a Road Runner clone .45 size. I am going to put in a K&B .45 laid down.
