Hello Guys,

I built a JAE Gas rigger and can't seem to get the rear end to settle down in the water. Are any of you guys dealing with this and if so how did you get rid of it. My engine is set at the 20" mark. They rec 19" to 20" forward of the transom. I set mine at 20" Ready to run weight came in at 13 and I have 8 pounds on the front sponsons. This is pretty close to the 60/40 weight distribution they call for.

Strut is set 1/16 higher than ski and perfectly level. Tub is also perfectly level and all three ride pads are flat on set up table. Rudder is 1.6 X Dia of prop below CL of shaft. Rudder is angled up on TE bottom to eliminate rudder lift. Tried V967 - 21 series - 14 series props.

My gut feeling, if you look at the JAE 21 and the 45 and figure the weight compared to ride pad surface you will find about 1 pound per 1" of pad. Most typical riggers in this weight range are running about 9.5" of pad verses the JAE Gas at 5.8.

Could the rear be hunting for more support causing it to oscillate up and down?

Albert

Albert,

Have you tried an ABC 2716/3 or a 2718/3?

It works very well. And I have them in stock again.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

i would drop the strut flush with the ski and see what happens.. i think not enough prop in the water.

What happens when you go to a bigger or smaller prop?

I haven't had much time to run mine but I didn't experience any rear hop problem. The only prop I tried so far is a mod 2818. It's setup close to the instructions except for a couple adjustments to help it track straight.

I set it up exactly as per the specks, strut level 1/16 from bottom of table. I then lowered it to the bottom of ski and raised it. The only time the hop went away was with the strut 1/4" high. Lost speed and can't live with that. Tried smaller props and it got much better but no speed. What I can't figure is that I ran 80.2 with the V967 on a home made rigger with standard weight up front config. Light rear end compared to the JAE but yet MY JAE wants to lift the rear. Checked all the sponson angles and they are all dead on to the kit and instructions. Go figure!

I have tried the 2818 and also a 2718/3 from Mark the 2718 is faster neither one makes it hop. My strut is set on my ski flat/ working wit turn fins right know.
