I am curious as to how many people are running the boat and what you think about them. If you have not built one or have not driven please ....no comment thx

Stan I have a new June 2011 kit built ready to run. Engine location seems to be all over the place depending who you talk to. You will widen out the front sponson tubes & you will play with the tops of the front sponsons to keep it on the water when it is Hauling ARS............ FAST SAW & 2 lap boat. But you will have to work on it to make it a HEAT RACER.......

Thx for answering post...I do not want to race her,I just want to play with one. I have seen them run the web, they look pretty tough.Do the boats run decent from the kit/plans that come with it.Iwould love to build one,,,I have seen the pics. of the build online just wanting to know if you have to make any major changes.

There are a few things that cannot be compromised to make the JAE run well.. first is make sure the tub is level to the table with the ski and sponsons on the table..Do not make the sponson width too narrow.. do NOT tuck the strut up into the ski, make the front of the strut sit right at the rear of the ski..also the turnfin style and location is very sensitive, i recommend david preusse's turnfin to everyone who builds one, because they WORK, mounted with the front of the fin 1/2 behind the rear boom tube.. i have tried other shapes, sizes and curls, none work as well as davids so i recommend you at least start there..also you will want to toe the rf sponson in 1/8 of an inch.. thats it,from there its build the boat straight and true, and tune the prop, pipe and engine..

PS all the records that have been set with JAE boats, they have been right from the plans or kits..

Thx.Thats what I want to know,,,do i need to give the sponson on the turn fin side more support(extra ply)to make sure it holds up?I would like to get David P. pm to get a turn fin. Can you buy the carbin boom tubes from zip? From what I have seen on the builds online I might want to beef the boat (tub)in certain areas,,,Is anybody building the kit to sell? I heard David P.is doing some boats. I can do it myself just asking dumb... questions. thx

I have been very interested in the 45 kit as well , thought about buying one for a friend but you just don't hear anything about them.

I do love my 21 JAE and hoped the 45 would be as good ?

Hey Stan great to see you on I.W.

In all seriousness, they designed the boat and basically it cant fail...... Martin's straight and true words, for sure... Everybody builds different, while I "beefed" mine accordingly, because mostly i wanted to. Pinned bulkheads, bait box, reinforced tub, sponson pinsw/ hardwood blocks.... aluminum booms, and onward...... the thing is a rocket even with nominal power,(mine), I've watched David's run during heat racing here, and it's completely off the charts..... he drives incredibly, and the boat rails snap your neck corners... his fins are great for this style boat, matched with speedmaster hardware (mine)..... i incurred radio issues with mine, and winter will solve the problem..... Build one!...... Hang on tight. Mike

Mike Walker will build the boat and he does a good job.......He is on this forum...I believe you can also get the boat from Zipp pre-built...

Joe Petro [email protected] and Mike Walker [email protected] I believe they have a working agreement.....

Carbon booms from www.Goodwinds.com The JAE team has graduated to solid carbon rods for reliability....I believe Truex is using 3/8" rods.

I will add this to Martins remarks.......Move the motor as far back in the motor well as possible...."DO NOT " move the motor forward.....

Leave the front radio box bulkhead where it is shown on the plans........Yes,pay attention to the turnfin mount....This boat flat do pull some "G's" in the corner....

Listen to Truex.....There is "nobody" on this planet with more experience with JAE boats that Truex......

The people who enjoy the most success with the JAE boats are the newbies who know nothing about traditional riggers and

don't try to incorporate traditional rigger thinking into the JAE design and just build per the plans or kit...........The people who experience poor performance are the people who think they know more about the boat than the people that designed it......The boat is amazingly "stupid simple" if you just understand its design......

I would be more than happy to talk to anybody about the JAE boat and what and why makes the boat work so well....

I can also tell you everything we have learned about building the boat and the areas that require extra consideration and attention.......

Give me a phone # at [email protected] or contact me at 1-715-926-6096.....Rod Geraghty

Stan, A year after the 45 boat has been Sold to the General Public. You can now get some decent numbers on location of the engine & turn fin Like Rod said. MANY made Mistakes because there were NO INSTRUCTIONS on Parts Location of Engine & Turn fin. I have seen New Boaters & Old make these same mistake again & again. As you know this could be a problem IF You need to Move the engine a great distance after you have driled the holes & set your angle of the engine & stuffing tube into the boat. Martin has supplied some numbers that work for him & David Prusse makes a cowl & a Turn fin for the boat you will need. Mine has been reinforced in the front with wooden boom tube blocks & The front tube has some adjustability built in so I has change the attack angle on the Fronts if needed. Get a Kit from Joe @ ZIPKITS & GET GOING.......

I would like to say thx to everybody's input...I have a motor on the way I guess now I need to get kit and become a carpenter. I hope everybody has a Very Merry X-mas.

Stan ask joe about the Cable collet he has for the Gas motors. It is a Cable collet that turns the lock nut around & grabs more of the Cable. Stops LOST Cables in GAS Boat Applications....... Sweeeeeet little design change

Stan, yes just like Rod and Martin have said. Mike built me a boat from the short kit and I highly recommend it!!!! I put the motor as far back as the bulkhead would allow and made a NICE GENTLE Sweeping S bend in the stuffing box with ball bearings in the strut and it seems to work great so far.

Stan this is a fun boat to build as I.m in the process of building 4 boats now, 1kit and 3 from scratch. You can go to the Zip Kits web site and down load the 21 plans which are basically the same boat with the exception of the right sponson which gets lots of reinforcement from solid wood blocks. Rod has been a great help to me as well as David P. I also got the cowl and turn fin from David. If you haven't downloaded the plans just google JAE 45 and you willl find everything you need. Good luck, Tim

Martin or Rod,

Im building a few of these this winter. What is the width for the sponsons and depth of the rudder you recommend? Also the turnfin template on Keps Freebie page is that on par with the turnfin that David P makes?

Thanks Matt

Matt,

on the 45 make them at least 22 inches outside to outside, i use 24.. rudder 2.25 below ski , i have not used that turnfin because i have had no luck with double bend fins, i prefer a curled fin not one made in a brake..
Are you using 5/16 solid carbon tubes on your JAE 45?

Thanks.
