You have 90% of the hard work behind you now! Move forward and finished it out, you will have some fun with it no matter what! You have to start your fleet with one boat, may as well be the 45.

HEYWIRE DON'T JUMP!

You are almost there. Put it together. Reinforce. Like I said on my 67 jae it was my first build and the only problem I had was my turn fin. Sounds like your sponsons are good and rienforced and you are ready to go. The joy of throwing your first build in the water and it jumps up and goes like these JAE 'S is a thrill. Now I have 2 45's almost finished and two plans built 21's ready to go. I work at a cabinet shop and everywhere I look I see wood I can build a JAE out of. It all starts with the completion of the first one. Finish Heywire finish.

Well, I am giving up on this project and going to go with the KEP's 21 where everything is cut and dry. This is too much thinking and is taking the fun out of the build. Thanks all for your advice.
Send it to my address and I'll finish it , everything isn't plug and play . :D

this boat is an inanimate object, don't let it get the best of you. you are way smarter than is    . seriously, finish it out, the grin you will have after it screams across the pond couldn't be slapped off your face by a gorilla.

Thanks all for the encouragement. I will complete it. After stepping away and sleeping on it I was thinking I couldn't let it kick my ass. Thanks again all for the encouragement.

Finish it! Again its about learning.. that way it will be a piece of cake the next project and some of the basics apply to just about any boat you will build..

So where are we at this point on the build heywhire... I have cut out my templets and made a attempt to cut out the rails but the scroll saw is a waste of time I need a band saw.. so I have to wait till later this week to see if I can get one and a sander to clean up the edges. Well hope to see your progress.

very cool, remember there are alligators in EVERY swamp.....& the grass isn't always greener ;) i'm an auto tech, & when a car is kickin' by butt, i have to remind myself that i am smarter than it, not by much :p , but i CAN whip it!!

Well I went out to my shop and made some more sponsons, I made the G's I think. I used 1/8" for both sides of both sponsons and the turnfin sponson I put the brass from one side to the other along with 3 individual 3/8" dowels for the turnfin and 2 individual 3/8" dowels from top to bottom to tie the ride pad in. Do I do the same with the port sponson? I built these about 1/4 to 3/8 inches wider. I know weight should be kept down but it was not much. Tomorrow I will coat and spray, now I will have two sets to experiment with so when I build the next one I will have good data and knowledge about which one works for me.

Hey you got it rocking now! The turn fin side (Rt) is the only one with strength issues as the turn loads all focus on that one, the Lt side is just along for the ride more or less. You are on track and you should have some good testing ahead.

Your G sponsons look great! I know that on the 12 Jae the sponsons are different widths so I imagin that the 45 is very much alike with the stronger and thicker Right sponson for turn fin mounting. Question on the tie in of the 1/8 ride pad.. is the ride pad directly on foam or did you skin the sponsons and add the pad after?

I epoxied the 1/16 ply to the foam then CA'ed the ride pad to it then put dowels in it to tie it all together.

Sounds good keep going! Heywhire what servo do you plan to use for the rudder? and Paul being you have a servo mount already installed for the rudder whats is your servo choice for this project ??

I used a Futaba S3305, and a LiFE RX 6.6v battery pack. A LiPO Rx battery is another path but the LiFE cells are better suited to the radio needs (6.6v not 7.2v) and they do not brun up like a LiPO can do. The LiFE cells can be charged in ~15-20 min, and weigh less also. Fair warning the LiFE cells do require a charger that is more costly than the standard radio wall chargers. Pick a servo with metal gears, ball bearing, and over 100 Oz-In torque, waterproof would be good also. There are some HiTec servos that would be fine also, I do think Futaba makes a better product.

Sounds like you have a good set up with lipos Paul. I have to see what Im going to use when I get there. ;) Speaking of.... where is Heywhire?

Heywhire any progress on your build and photos? I started cutting wood this pass weekend will start another post here on IW when I start to put glue to wood. :)

Hey guys, been awhile. Work got in the way, have that under control now (sort of) but got back on the JAE45 build. I'm doing paint right now, with a bit of luck I will have her ready for a test dip in the water this weekend. I smell nitro on the water already...
