I was just wondering if anyone had a finished weight on their .21 JAE's. It seems to me that the boat is building heavier than most 21's we have run in the past. For comparison our Blackjack .21 without the fuel is about 3 lbs 9 oz. Thanks Tony J

Tony,

Three and a half pounds or less will be very fast.

You need to pay close attention to the radio box and hardware

on these boats. We have found that the weight and top speed

are pretty closely related.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Hey Tony,

I put EVERYTHING on the scale (less fuel/paint,cowl) my KIT boat is at 3lbs 5.6ounces. . Add a 2 ounce gain with sealing and paint on the hull. Make good choices on hardware, linkages, radio equipment, batt pack and finishing. Hope that helps

i just weight mine with everything except starting belt and prop (hint..... hint..... mark) READY TO RUN. it was 3lbs 7.5oz.

i am a heavy builder with plenty epoxy sealer and primer/paint, 1600mah battery, 3rd chanel installed, jims strut, i stuffed the boom tubes with dowels, double pushrod seals (inside and out), brass water line through the radio box, metal clevisis on pushrods, extra zip ties everywhere, ect..... i build heavy and durable.

the kit was built by david at cdrace but i sealed and painted it. i am sure if i paid attention to weight i could shave at least 3oz off the build.

Dave did you cut it out from plans, I dont think I can even get close to that weight ?

Tony

I use west system and i let it set for 20 to 30 min them scrap off what I don't need.

The boat I built was a zippkit no short cuts on the wood build.I built it just like the plans says.I made the cowling from nightmares plans here on intlwaters. All the hard wear from zippkit and the strut is jim the new one that he makes.I don't use brass in the bulkheads for the water lines.I drill a .187 hole then a .200 reamer thur the hole and seal it.the fuel tubing is around .220 in dia.then when done the hose is you seal.I have never had one to leak out side water in the radio box.Save weight.I will try to get picture up soon.

Guys,

I would not get overly alarmed about the finished weight. There is such a thing of a too light 21 boat for heat racing. SAW is one thing but heat racing is another. Running among 6-8 boats with some wind and chop actually works agaisnt a super light boat. All of the other mfg'ed riggers normally fell in the 3.5 to 4.0 lb range from prior comparisons in the past couple of years. Not sure how the JAE will run in the pack of other boats with chop and wind so time will tell. Stability is more important than light weight and the prop characteristics will factor into that equation.

Other subject on the JAE - the weakest part of any rigger are the boom tubes. Anyone yet found out a source of replacement boom tubes. Prefer the longer sticks so several sets can be made up.

Martin,

Thanks for the link. What is the stock # for the correct one? One shot to get it right.

Best wishes in CA on Sunday.

well the ones i use are .250 , not sure what size the tubes are in the kit boats, im sure someone will chime in on that..thank you

Buckshot,

Weight is not that critical in a twin or gas boats for speed.

On the 12's and 21's however, we have found almost a 1 MPH

loss per ounce after 3 pounds. :D

Have A Great Weekend,

Mark Sholund

Mark

i hope your right, as my new 21 rigger is about 9oz lighter then my old 21 rigger,

come to think, 9oz x 1mph= 9mph, sweet... :D

cant wait till tomorrow to run it...

regards Aaron
