Thanks,

I decided to use the rudder that zipkits sells and it will be fine without a doubt and you cannot beat his price and service A+...

I should be able to get on with some more building and in a couple weeks will have everything i need to finish this boat.

Guys i am back at my jae 12 and taking a little break from my whiplash.

I was wondering if any of you guys would know what i need for wheel collars to couple 2 of the 2-56 pushrods together and if anyone is using a micro servo such as this for the throttle.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNCV6&P=ML

I am mocking up my radio box and there does not seem to be enough throw for the carb on the NR 5 port .12 carb even with my EPA maxed out.

I am using the longest servo arm that comes with the servo but maybe it needs to be modified to be lengthened...

Thanks

Yuppers, I ran into the same problem. I used the longest servo arm that I could put in there and EPA's at max but not enough. I ended up by shortening the throttle arm and drilling a new hole. It also got it away from the side of the tub and away from the pipe. I've got the carb in mine so that the throttle arm is on the left side. Not in the shot that the linkage isn't hooked up or the pipe mounted in place but that actually helps for what you need.

Ron,

My carb is on the same side as yours and drilling the arm will be no problem.did you just use the same spacing as what is there and add the third hole above the 2 that are there??I am trying to get a feel of where you put you hole.

How about a picture of your servo and horn ?

Are you using the same servo i am trying to use for the throttle ?

Thanks

Terry

PS my 21 is on the way.

If i go closer to the shaft on the servo i get less travel/throw..Did you mean closer to the the center of the carb arm like ron is suggesting.

Ron, did you straighten the stock shaft and then drill you hole closer ?

You just had to make me look! :D I did take the mild Z bend out of it but it is angled a little yet enough to clear the flywheel and starting belt.

Thanks guys by modifying my arm and using a hole closer to the carb i have enough throw now.

hi guys ,lots of great info. I'm getting one for x-mas and was wondering if it is worth getting the zipkit hardware as well or are there better options for stuff like , motor mounts, struts and rudders etc.

thanks

Just buy everything from Joe. the stuff that he sells are made for the JAE, they look good and the prices are great......Thats what I did B)

I have been dealing with Joe and have bought a 12 and 21 and recommended them to others he is excellent to buy from.

The back of the rudder is a bit on the wide side for my liking but may work fine.

Byron, I make hardware for the JAE as well, if you need something let me know. Are you going to be able to make it down for our hangover race on New years day.

It has been a long time since updated... so here it is. I have it all mocked up and everything has been setup including throw and linkage lengths etcc.I just stuck it together for this one last time before sealing and paint.

I use one of Don's bases and the o.s. inflite valve and 2 futaba micro servos (hope they hold up)900 mAh batter 6vAAA cells.

I had decided to use the 5/16/8mm tubes long ago since i had many here and currently use them on my other 21 rigger.I will be using the same method on my JAE 21 also.

The only bits missing would be pipe mount and fuel tubing. The tank in it is just for mockup and i am going to use one identical to it but fittings will be different.

I came in at 2bs 8.2oz that is unsealed or painted. It may be a bit heavier than some but it is very well built .The way i drive i need it. ;)

What would you figure the sealing and primer and paint would add if used sparingly.Just a ball park estimate please.

It would be sealed with West sytem epoxy and klasskote primer and paint.

Looking good, especially for your first build, now wasn't that fun? :)

If you're careful you will add an ounce or two, if you glop epoxy all over it it'll be 5 or 6.

Why not just brush the tub with clear Klasscoat or Endura, prime and paint the sponsons with something bright? Forget the epoxy, it'll only add weight and very little strength.

There ya go, flamesuit on!

ps: if you can make your pix smaller they'd be easier to see on my 19" screen. :)

So it is ok to use say a KlassKote epoxy paint applied to the bare wood as a sealer and as well as the primer which would be sealing the wood prior to topcoat ??

Does the epoxy paint seal the wood eliminating the need for multiple base layers of west or mas ?

I Prefer the painted tubs over the natural.
