Being someone that has served IMPBA, I am GREATLY concerned with the current IMPBA situation in regard to proposed rule changes and Meeting Minutes.

Here is a result of a recent CRITICAL rule change proposal (now passed).

vote.jpg

What percentage of the IMPBA Membership does this represent? A VERY SMALL proportion of the membership!

There must be some way of mandating members to vote on these rule change proposals. I would not be at all against MANDATORY voting requirements of membership.

It seems that it is easier to just check YES or not vote than to study a rule proposal.

How does this rule affect our hobby? Could be Dramatic, is the answer !

It is time to come up with a solution to this problem for the good of our hobby.

One additional IMPORTANT item:

Why no posted minutes of Board of Directors Meetings since 2010 on the impba.net website?

I have looked and looked for Ballot 13 and can not find it on the IMPBA Website.

I would think that the membership should have access to the minutes of recent meetings (since 2010?) to stay in touch with the decisions of our Board of Directors.

Ballots were in the December roostertail. I voted. I think I was the only NO vote in D5. My concern was how to judge that progress is impeded. VERY subjective. Any time I'm passed, I can change lanes and claim that I had to do it to avoid being dunked If the faster boat moves into my lane). A fast boat's roostertail can be half the length of a straightaway at speed; that's 165'. Makes me think of basketball, i.e. fake the foul......I also voiced my concerns about the lack of board meeting minutes, but basically felt I got a runaround answer.

Hey Marty:

Ballots #13-001 to 13-006 were in the Dec. Roostertail, pg. 5-11:

http://www.impba.net...le/152/D12V.pdf

13-001 was my "shall not impede" passing rule, changing the former 3 boat length, is that the one you mean?

Unfortunately voting hasn't changed since we served the Board in the 90's, maybe drawing for a year's free membership if you vote would be some incentive?

BTW, our new D1 Director Luc White is doing a good job of getting guys here to vote but 10% is still dismal...

Couldn't agree more. The longer I'm in this hobby the more sorry me, contradicting rules and babies I see. Not trying to be negative but I call it how I see it.

Maybe Rule changes should be talked about and voted on during the season but don't take effect till the next year ... Then atleast members would hear about the proposals .....

Marty I to have concerns of the voting of these big rule changes with such a small percentage of membership, Look at one the other important ballots that were passed that took the voting power and directors to break the tie. There is a typo on the yes votes total. Showing 27 should be 47.

Ballot Passes

This is why I think that we need a 50 percent voting rule. I know that this has been a problem for many years on low voter count. And has past many bad rules that has riped IMPBA apart in many ways. This is bad with only 94 members voting on this. And I can hear it now just as I have heard it before "Well that is what the membership wants". Sorry but 94 members is not the membership. I made a proposal last year before this rule was to be voted on and it never got off the table. The answer I got from my director was the other board members thought that if we had this rule that we would never have any rules passes. Well maybe this is just what we need.

I tried to vote but the system wouldn't let me. It said I was not a member in 2012 but I was.

If you can't vote online you can send in your vote to your District Director by e-mail

so your vote can be counted Hope this helps.

I have submitted a proposal to help this situation, soon as I hear back I will tell you more.

How about IMPBA sends out a simple email to vote. Or vote on IW. Let's face it more members go on here than on the IMPBA site.

Think about it. Voting in December.... It's Christmas time and the dead of winter here. Not to mention the IMPBA site is not the most user friendly. Sending out am aol would be my answer to getting more people to vote

TL

You can not force people to vote or care. The less people who vote, the more your vote counts.

Why not use peer pressure to coerce more members into voting... Post the names of the members who voted on the IMPBA website, that way you know who didn't vote.

This was part of a topic i was talking about last week. IMPBA locks out most everybody or has had several problems with there site. Little help here and there from boaters that are willing to help what they can.. but they need to hire someone to manange the site correctly. But then they allow Boaters to run on race sites without insurance or cards in hand........ seems like we have plenty of security on the website.. Hell the current impba members cannot access it to vote...... and No Security where it really counts??? We IMPBA Dist #5 have had our last 2 District Directors appointed to us. I guess Someone thinks we are too stupid to vote for one?? But we have not had the chance in about 6 years.....  Sorry Marty I must vent a little....... I laughed at the number of votes and that it actually changed a rule & passed & it is interesting that it gets way more Attention On IW than the IMPBA web site. Maybe that cause we cannot get on the web site!!!!!!!duh..........

Part of the problem is you could not vote if your were not a current member. In January you had to be a 2013 paid member.

Nobody has commented on why we have had no Board of Directors minutes published since 2010. That is inexcusable. How is the membership to be informed that way?
