How much for a good used turn key sport 40 hydro?I am very interested in that class.

Well I can tell you this there is one hell of a good RTR Phil Thomas sport 40 on Ebay right now.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT

This boat belongs to a very good friend of mine Tony Masiello. Tony is now into flying the turbine jets so it looks like the boats went up for sale. All his stuff is first rate, meticulously built & FAST. Really was hoping he'd get back into the boats again.... :(

Don't take this seriously, but once he turns one of those jets ($$$) into a lawn dart, he may reconsider getting back into boats.

Yeah I thought that as well but he's had 2 crashes in 2 years @ 10K a pop & is still doing it. He is a Top Gun builder (fly boys will know what that means) who does first rate work. Last time I spoke with him he told me that the big money guys who don't want to screw with building one will fork out big $$$ to buy his stuff at a nice profit for him. He is also partially sponsored by Violet last I heard.

-$300.00 plus for hull

-$350.00 for engine

-$$150.00 for hardware

-$100.00 for servos

-$200.00-$300.00 plus for misc parts (tanks, linkages, paint, drive shaft/prop etc).

Not trying to be negative but I've been to way too many mall displays where club members tell people they can get into model boating for less than a grand. And, I've seen far too many perspective boaters get in and out of the hobby because nobody told them that $50% fuel costs $25.00 bucks a gallon.

Put it this way, I'm at well over $1,100.00 and still counting for a new one, so figure at least half of that used, more for quality parts and low run time.

I'm using pretty much top-shelf stuff on this baby, RCMD Supersport 45, MAC .45 with tuned pipe, Speedmaster hardware, Hi-Tec FM radio and servos, Grimmie's fuel cell and Andy's props not to mention the odds and ends parts.

It can be done for less but you have to dig around.

Mine us an old Super Sport 45 that i got for 40 bucks. its a long story but with a happy ending.

I have a K+B motor i picked up for 90 bucks.

Let me see..

Super Sport 45 with paint and all the fixings(remember mine as a long story) $120.00

K+B motor (used from a trusty fella) $90.00

Brown pipe ($80.00?) cant remember

Hardware $130

Radio (i use standard Servos)....lets see if i had to buy a new one.. $160?

Hand Made Grimracer driver dude "Priceless"

Whats the total... hum.. about 6 bills..

More then the cost is the PURE PLEASUER it is to race the boat.. I love my boat and it runs very well. 3rd at its first ever race. 2003 Internats.. 8th in 2004. (I finished every heat and still took 8th.. man that was good racing)

I think Alan A (daddysundown) has a nice shot of it at the picture board..

Grim... There's always an exception to every rule. Heck, I seen John Drawe sell one of the districts best sp .40's with an extra engine, prop and everything needed to be a competitive racer for $500.00. All that wasn't included was John's ability to drive which can't be bought. Truth is, if you spend the time to attend races and shop around I'm sure you can find a freebee if you look hard enough. However, knowing a deal when you see one and being in the right place at the right time, is only luck of the draw. Bottom line... $1200.00 minimum for something new is more the norm and $600.00 gets you a used long story boat with a K&B engine.

If you can, try to go to a big race and ask around. Alot of good deals to be had. Not always, but if your not in a hurry it could be well worth the wait. I just picked up a Phil Thomas SS45 with all the hardware, servos, CMB .45 gold head with 2 tuned pipes for under $300.00. Everything but Transmitter, Receiver ........and the setup instuctions. I sure could use a copy of them. <_< <_< <_< <_<
