This thread is fascinating. I've read so many reports that Dumas kits are junk. It's nice to see a bit of positive press about them.

At one time the Dumas boats kits were all that some of us could get if we wanted to build a Scale ,sport or Hydro out of wood..Some of the wood in the kits soaked up so much epoxi gule we used to seal the wood they became so heavy they became uncomtetive with the engins used back then but with the new glues and building tec now it become a different story..

very nice looking boats jerry

The stock kit is lots of fun to drive and will bust out 50mph if you have it right.. We have went 55 with the boat but its a crapshoot if its going to stay on or not.. If you can run 45 to 47 with the thing you are in for a lot of fun.. to tell you the truth its fun to drive at any speed..
shoot anything better than the cen i will be very happy with :)

I was bummed as Mike Grim offered to make me up a new cowl but as I looked closer to all the Gallery photos I noticed a major difference in everyone elses P-P hull, there's weren't built w/a 3 part cowl like mine.

First, I have a nose piece built on the top that goes over the fuel tank area, second, the cowl is about 3/4 the length of the boat and Lastly the Tail wings were built in permanetly.

I could gut everything but that's a major project I'm not up for. I do however don't like the fact that the guy who painted it didn't seal the wood or even use a primer. The paint went right over the bare wood.

If I deciede to make changes it means stripping the paint down to the wood. What I don't want is sand paper staining paint into the wood. Are there any Jasco paint strippers made for delicate woods? I know they make them for everyday house hold wood.....any thoughts the best way to get all the paint and decals off to get back to bare wood the easiest??
