What is your experience level? A 70 mph FE boat can be very dangerous, and you will need a large pond on which to run it. There are several ways to get there, how much do you want to spend? The "safest" way is with a larger hull and a 6S power system, this has less amp draw and the boat is large enough to handle rougher water. You can do it with 4S but expect to smoke an ESC on occasion.

Here is one way to go:

Aeromarine Sport 20 (33")

Neu 1527/1D

4S2P 10,000 mAh LiPos

Hydra 240

x452 or x648 prop

Speeds will be in the mid/high 60s with the right setup - perhaps a bit more, but if you don't have hydro setup experience - or someone to help you - you may not get there.

And you only need to ask this question once ....

The H&M wont handle the 60-70mph without serious mods.

Why dont you start with something around the 50-60mph which is very reasonable and a heap cheaper. And seriously you wont be able to notice the difference.

you can hit 60mph with a 1515/1y or 1515/1.5d neu motor and they cost less than the 1527 series, and you would only need a standard 240amp ESC, where as i have had no luck with the 1527s on the HV240 series, but the 40/160 schulze works no problems. (just a heat thing for the ESC)

hull would be something like

Phill Thomas SS21

Whiplash 21

If you go with the 1527 motor setup go the 45versions of these hulls or the one that Jay suggested.

Hey "Eat..."

No one can point you to "THE" best hull to achieve your goals.

For the speeds that you are talking about with a boat powered with a brushless set up and lipo power, you want the following in a Hull:

  • 29 to 43 inches long (Covers a bunch of em) Length & width in the proper ratio give better stability at speed.
  • High strength hull (gas boat type fiberglass layup) My advice is don't get an ultralight layup or an ABS hull!
  • Hull that runs a relatively flat angle of attack (1 to 2 degrees positive angle)
  • A strong canopy, I have seen many FAST boats suffer catastrophic damage simple because the canopy caved in when the boat flipped or stuffed. the supplied canopy should fit well but may need reinforcement.
  • Low frontal area that does not pack too much air under the bow.

Consider the total weight of all the gear + the hull and be certain that the hull offers sufficient displacement so that it will float when sitting still.

Many of the bigger hulls have the capacity to go 60 to 70, but stability at those speeds is really a function of how the boat is set up: Center of gravity, strut depth & angle, prop size, pitch and blade form.

What I am saying is; regardless of the hull that you select you are going to have to work (read here "tinker") with the set-up to get the speeds that you want.

If you do not have any FE experience, count on ruining a speed control or battery pack in your quest.

You have been given some good advice by knowledgable RC boaters. I am certain that you will achieve your goal if you listen to them.

Best of Luck!

whiplash 21

built and run one which is a mates - smooth handeling boat. Great to make another wood boat

will be making my whiplash some time in the future. Just need more time so i can boat more

PTSS21

built and run one - another smooth handeling boat. Ive had 2 of these hulls, and each one is just brilliant. Bit of work filling the epoxy and getting it to paint stage. (but hay, so i making a wood boat)

Regret selling the 2nd one - it was by far the best race boat i have owned. Just so faithful... Never let me down when it came to crunch time.

PTSS45 - never run one but they are great. Mate has one and its going to be 6s/1p for out Australian rules.
