Guys, I have two K&B 67s that are going in my Roadrunner Twin. It feels like they need Bearings. I have never replaced a set before. Is there an easy way to do it without special tools ? If anyone has a good method please let me know. Thanks Phil

the easy way to take the bearings out the engine we use a blow torch and spread the flame around the case and they will pop out very quickly and then install the new bearings and reassemble..

but everyone has a different way thats the way i find better for me

you can go to advance auto shop and they have flywheel pullers thats what we use for our 101RS motors

There are different ways to do it but I take the longer route.....

First, disassemble your engine and remove all parts except bearings. Clean the case as best you can and flush with water. Blow dry. Then, use an oven and heat to 350 for 10 minutes and place engine in a pan and then in the oven for about 15 minutes. Using an oven mitt, remove engine and tap on rear of case and big bearing will fall out. If it falls out right away, turn engine over and the front bearing should fall out as well, or it may need to be helped out by tapping it from inside with a 3/8" length of dowel.

Once bearings are out, let case cool and clean the bearing recesses as best you can. I use sos pads and water for this.

Next, have bearings ready and again, put case in oven pan and oven for 15-20 minutes.

Remove from oven and drop both bearings in and install crank and collet and flywheel. Snug up collet and tap with wood to set the bearings. Let cool.

Re-assemble engine and lightly oil and your done.

THIS . I use this method but with a Mapp gas torch instead of the oven . To hold the engine for heating make a scrap plate of aluminum that bolts to the motor mount lugs much like the mount and leave an inch overhang to grip with Vise Grips to avoid marring the engine . Then you can rotate the case around the stationary torch and tap on a wood block to get the bearings out .

I use a small oven at 350 degrees. This makes certain that the case is heated evenly.

Just follow Rob's directions and you will be fine.

Normally the big bearing will just fall out if you tap the engine (with the small bearing end up) on a piece of wood.

If you are having trouble removing the flywheel, a small gear puller will do the trick.

I prefer the Oven over the torch, it heats the entire block evenly and to a Set Temp. If your not Patient with a torch you can over heat the block and literally Melt it, Don't ask me how I know, and get uneven expansion of the aluminum making it more difficult to remove or install the bearings. I also put the bearings in the Freezer while the block is heating so they contract and make the installation that much easier. I never have to Tap on my bearing with anything during installation.

I also use the oven method with no problems. One more piece of advice if you use the oven method, make sure your wife or whoever shares your oven is not home!

I like to seat the bearings in their pockets while the case is hot, have used a socket that matched the OD of the bearing but since turned up tools from aluminum.

Makes sure there's enough end play in the crank and prevents binding. :)

Yea my Wife didn't like it much when she Caught me using the oven for Parts  I took a gas oven out of my old camper and put it in the shop.

Thanks Guys. Great Advice. Maybe I can slip the Cases in the oven with the Turkey in a few weeks, I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind !

Go to the local second hand store/goodwill store, and buy a used toster oven. you might pay around $5.00 for one. Keeps the wife happier! LOL

If you hose it down with brake clean and then rinse it thouroughly in hot water before you put it in the oven that pretty well keeps the smell down.
