Here is a video of my Hammerhead 21 at last weekends D8 points race at Twin Lakes.

Other than getting to DQs for destroying Kelly's and Brian's riggers ( Truly Sorry :( ), I was pretty happy with the way it performed.

Who says good things can't come in big packages. 37" long 5 pound pound 21 rigger with a NR35+ Jim Mamaril tuned.

I DO KNOW that without a lot of mods, and more expensive engines than I can afford,.. it's very hard to go over 70!! I'm only asking because, at least from looking at the video, I think I can keep up with Hammerhead!!!

but that heavier boat did seem to stay hooked up well

I did not have my radar gun with me, but I can guarantee you that none of us were running 70. I don't like to use my guess-o-meter to say how fast we are going so I will try to remember the radar gun for our race on May 5-6.

You are right Anthony, Marty's boat does run very well and I think it will handle most any water conditions you throw at it.

It isn't going 70 for sure, but there is more speed in it. The motor is still relatively new, so I'm still running a little fat. If I were to throw a 45 in it, It would do 70 plus for sure and still drive like a dream. All in all, being my own design, I think I deserve to be a little bit proud. I also think that the folks in D8 that helped me with fabricating hardware, engine mods, and design advice should be proud too.

I totally agree!! It's a nice build.. . continuing innovation and some flat surface ques from the JAE.. very nice.. BUT,.. drive the same with a 45? come on... never seen a rigger that would do that.. except for SAW

If you saw how huge this boat is you would change your mind. It's bigger than a JAE 45. The running surfaces are nothing like the JAEs either. Probably the only thing that could be construed as being influenced by the JAE is the way I extended the turn fin side sponson to substitute the typical turn fin spar, but I have been doing this on builds off and on since 2000. I don't think that the JAEs were even around back then. I built this rigger with the intent on finishing heats in any condition. That it will do after I get my driving ability dialed in. Don't get me wrong Anthony. I think the JAEs are the best thing that's happened to the RC boat world in a long time. I think they are great boats for the money, but in my honest opinion, I would rather spend the time and build something myself. My .12 rigger is an amazing little boat. Sure it could have had a few things done differently, but skill aside, I think I can say it runs just as good or better than your typical out of the box JAE .12.

it's ok,.. I thought I remembered seeing the sponson bottoms look like the JAE,..

we dont' need another JAE thread that's for sure!!! that boat is nice and light for it's size then...

How about some more pictures... I'll like to see that thing again..

This is all I have right now, Anthony.

Theres some more rpm in that engine just begging to come out and play Knox-san. The boat doesn't seem to mind a left hand correction I noticed on one of the laps in the front straight. Good work my friend!

Marty,

Do you have a 45 motor?

It should run a nice 1662 cut down to 57mm.

Have Fun,

Mark Sholund

Mark,

No 45 in my engine collection at the moment. I would like to get one of those new NRs. Can't remember if the 45s need a larger flex than .187???? It would probably be fine, but....any comments welcome.

Anyway, I got the new props. There are minor differences between the 2 props. I will try the one that has the closer numbers to the one I mangled first. They are beautiful props as usual. Thanks!

BTW, Thanks for the awesome photos JD.

Marty, yeah the 45's use a .187 cable. Just let me know when you are ready!

Do you think 10-1/4 oz. is enough fuel for heat racing a 45? That's what I have in it now. If my memory serves me correctly, In Japan I ran 45s with 10 ounces, but they only run 5 laps there. I'm kind of limited on how much I can expand my fuel volume.

Probably not.,(unless you use low nitro % - then you might get away with it). I have about 13oz in my 45 rigger tank and I don't rpm the Picco to anywhere near like what the Nova 46 will rpm!
