A few years ago you could get half wave pipes with the rossi aircraft motors..maybe you still can.. Jett has this too.  The magic muffler was one too.. i think..?

Hi Mike

the Magic muffler was made in Australia some time ago by Pheland and Clark they worked very well but it was not very forgiving it had a narrow power band and staged very abruptly it did tend to make the engines run hot this was my expearince with them these pipes are no longer availabl.

They were origenaly made for aircraft use.

The design of these pipes is very simple. A pipe that gives almost a 100% reflection of the pulse at a certain frequency (rpm). If you work out the frequency you will get the wavelength. If you make the pipe 1/2 the wavelength long there you have it!!! a half wave pipe.

For some reason an OS 46 VRM and a 1/2 wave pipe were a killer combination.

Hi Guys

The Magic Muffler was an answer to a need for a muffled quarter wave pipe for FAI pylon racing. Back in the day of semi-scale pylon racing where tuned pipes were a no-no and the use of mini pipes was common they filled a definite need. As Paul has stated these operate in quite a narrow RPM band. They are better than an open exhaust though and do add to the power.
