Just had to give you a hard time Walt. Looking forward to the possibilites and I am sure that there are very good reasons that you were "drafted" for the position.

I would accept something like VP if we need one or if somebody else didn't already take it.

I would get behind that!

!!Olson for VP!! :D

I would love to be involved with the fledgling club in a leadership role of some kind, however I just don't have the time... Unfortunately, my time is very restricted for another year.

walt, ron & all your members - CONGRADULATIONS on the new pond & association with the car/gaming club. looks to be a good setup for everybody! best of luck with it.

Any new Developments?
Wade,

We're sitting tight waiting to make our presentation to the land owners. We have permission to run in the pond, but the section of beach we need to use to launch from isn't on the Battle front gameing lot, it's next door. The rest of the property around the pond is too steep to safely launch from. We also need that beach section to have the support of the IMPBA. and their insurance. No beach, no support.

John has next week off of work, so hopefully we'll know more next week.

I assume you are referring to the beach area at the north end of the lake. If that is the case, would it be difficult to hold a race there since you would have to launching and controlling from the end of the course instead of along the front straight? Or am i remembering things completely off?

Wade,

Yes that's the beach area that we're trying to work out with the owners. We believe that the pond is large enough for that to be the front stretch.Just don't go too deep into turn one. That's also the only safe area to run from. Everywhere else is too steep and dangerous for us to get the IMPBA support we need. No insurance, no pond. We'll get it measured next time we're up there.

More to come.

Keep your fingers crossed too. ;)

I know these things take time, however, I still wondering if things are still moving in the right direction for this pond.

Walt was supposed to have met up with them again as last weekend the Battlefront owner was to get with Grand Rapids Gravel to hopefully get their blessing. This might be quite correct but if Walt sees this he'll get it right.

It's kiind of putting me in a spot right now as I'd like to move the Fun Run up there but if not I'll hold it down here again.

For people like you Wade, the problem is going to be that in order to run on Sanford Lake you're going to need an IMPBA membership card which will need to be shown to the guy that runs Battlefront. The lake is on private property so that's their rules.

Gang,

I never made it up there last weekend because we weren't properly prepared.

I was waiting for a copy of the insurance policy from the IMPBA. It came yesterday, so now we're all set. It would have never flown without the insurance policy from the IMPBA.

I couldn't make it up there last night because of prior commitments, but I'm heading up after work today.

We still need to keep our fingers crossed and we'll see what happens.

The Southwest Michigan Model boat club registration has been sent with the registration fee to the IMPBA, so we're good to go there.

Next will be the Bi-laws.

And Wade, Ron's right, to run anything at the site, assuming it all works out, EVERYONE will need an up to date IMPBA membership card. It's an insurance thing and part of our promise to GR Gravel. Anyone running without membership is not insured and a liability to GR Gravel.

If I'm not mistaken, NAMBA cards will also be accepted. I have to look into that one a bit more.

More to come later.

Walt

This fact might make me a spectator if the fun run is held there (too many other things need to be paid before any extras like that are a consideration), however, I'll still show up for the fun and conversations.

John from Battle Front here. Walt dropped everything off and I am going to put together a letter to go with it as well. I will get it to GR Gravel on Monday.

I did make a trip to the City Hall the other day to check on frontages on the lake. There are 3 business on the south side of the lake that have legitimate frontage on the lake. I also discovered that the building we lease from has a very small piece of frontage on the southwest corner of the property. This is were it slopes down quite steeply out on the point that Jason and I had initially thought about driving from.

So, Grand Rapids Gravel does own most of the frontage around the lake but not all. I am not sure how this affects things. I am assuming that frontage grants rights to use the lake. If someone enters the lake from one of these businesses (highly unlikely as the slope is very steep and not accesable to the public) with permission, I do not believe we can legally ask them to leave the lake. By the same token if we access the lake through the frontage on the property that we lease, Grand Rapids Gravel can not say anything. This would require stairs and a dock.

Hi John,

If I can do anything or add anything else right now please let me know.

Is the introduction letter what you were looking for? If you need anything added or removed, I can do that and run it up to you this weekend too, just let me know.

That's the 1st time I've done a letter like that one, so had to wing it.Hope it works.

Guess it's a small world too, Grand Rapids Gravel was owned by the father of the person I bought my house from, but that was a long time ago since he sold the company.Guessing 25 years ago.

It sure is some times :D

Hey Tazz, good to see your working on making this a reality... course I never doubted that you wouldnt. also happy to see your looking at other area's to race from. it would be great to see the fun run out there, but it would knock out some from being able to participate unless there is a way to get a daily IMPBA card...

neways... Wade give me a ring when you got a moment.... Tazz I'll be swinging by BFG soon

We need to have another meeting the same day that the Roller Derby girls are there! ;)

I don't know how the daily IMPBA membership works as it's relatively new. Maybe Kevin can answer that one. I do have an IMPBA form that I'll get a pile of copies of. It's a 2007 but will work for 2008.

What daily membership, thats new to me ? You mean the one day event/race membership providing you belong to NAMBA or another organization?

Tony, I'm kind of vague on what was in the works or being tried as it seems like thay wanted to get something going for the first-time racer or those that would be racing on a limited basis.
