Thanks Don ;)

I would post the pic, but Im still workin out the "red X" problem too,

Gene :D

Thanks man ;)

This one is sized for a .12, If it runs well, might size it up to a .21,

BUMP! :D

Was hope'n to catch Glenn,

Need his comments if I got the Ski's right ;)

Gene B)

Gene, looks GOOD! From the pictures it looks like things should be pretty close, but it is kinda hard to see many of the details. What are the skis made of? Remember, my goal was to trim off weight...if the thick plywood vertical part of the skis weight more than two thin pieces of plywood with foam in between then you may be going backwards. I don't think there is any kind of aerodynamic drag advantage with the skis...just weight.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you out with!

Glenn

Hey Glenn,

Thanks Man :D

Yeah I wanted to try the ideas out in ply and then maybe switch it over to use some composites, had to see if I could pull it off, and make up some patterns.

I'll drop ya line when I come up with more questions ;)

Wow Gene!

If I'm seeing those skis correctly, I don't understand how you can turn the boat without the edges grabbing and tripping it. Are those actually like the one's on Genn's boat? I do understand it's an SAW but flat skis on a turn! I wouldn't want to try that on water skis.

I guess I've never seen a good picture of Glenn's sponsons.

Don

Hi Don,

Yeah that is pretty much what I said when I first saw Glenns hull, I only have two pics of it a side shot and a top shot. I have beveled the outside edge of each ski bout 14 degrees and was thinkin about maybe adding some smaller ride pads. I did not see any turn fin on Glenns either, Going to try a small straight one.

That why I wanted to try out the design it's SOOOOO different ;)

Don and Gene, yea my skis are perfectly flat with no dihedral at all. I do have a 1/16" thich by 1/2" wide ride pad running the length of the sponson. I do not have to run a turn fin and the boat turns good (for a SAW boat), BUT it has to be going slow enough for the edges to get a "bite". If I try to turn it before it slows down it just kinda slides...the same as any boat without a turn fin. I have never had a problem with the edges grabing and causing the boat to do anything dumb.

Rod, yes I got the parts...as always your work is BEAUTIFUL!! I am actually using a combination of the parts. I worked and worked, but could never get the needle bearings as smooth and free as the ball bearings. On the ball bearing tube you made for me the bearings fit a little too loose, but I really like the brass part for the flange bearing. So I tried a piece of 5/16 ID brass tube and the ball bearings and the brass part you made fit in it perfect and the brass tube fit perfect into the tube you made for the needle bearings. It turned out to be REALLY slick! The shaft spins really free with 4 ball bearings and the whole thing comes in and out of the boat as a nice easy to change unit.

Thanks again Rod!!! Between the parts and carbs you have made for me over the years you deserve a lot of the credit for many of the records I have been lucky enough to set!
