I'd like to know if anyone has built a full size fishing boat from plans such as Clark Craft or Glen L. Due to the economy I will not be able to buy the sweet Alaskan fishing boat that I intended to upon my retirement. But why give up on having some fun? I have room to build a 20-21 footer in the garage with a bit of room to spare. Any suggestions for a powerplant?

Thanks,

Glenn

my dad did when i was about 10.actually built a 12 foot john boat, and a runabout.used marine plywood and that powdered glue, with brass screws(lots).i rember using a brace and bit to put the screws in

Glen , I refit 1979 Mako 21 that I bought for 3500.00 , bought a new Yamaha 200 saltwater series 2000 model year , a used aluminum trailer and had about 23, 000 in it done (back when I had an income LOL ) . It's been my daily driver for 11 years now great rig . IMO you would be better off re fitting one of the thousands of existing hulls out there and then you would never have all the problems associated with wood hulls . I did build the Teetop , Leaning post and fuel tank myself however .

Tom, The thought of refitting a existing hull crossed my mind moments after my first post. Could be less expensive than starting from scratch. I;ll have to do some looking and see what turns up

Go to a forum called " The Hull Truth " free to join and vast amounts of info etc . there will be a lot of damaged hulls coming from the NY NJ area ....
