I need some new bearings for an engine. The question I have is should the front bearing have two seals or just a seal on the outside side?

i only use one shield on the outside of the front bearing. The metal/rubber sheild. You can always remove one if it comes with two.
Mark, i just use a shield on the flywheel side of the front bearing. Has been working ok, for 20+ years, so why change?lol Hope to get to the pond soon, and do some more testing. Richard DBoca bearing says it does not matter if you leave both shields on.It is a matter of preference.????????????
I personally only have 1 shield installed on the flywheel side to help prevent air from being sucked in. the rest are open.

bad idea to leave a rubber coated shield on.
