Why dose everyone think this is a JAE bash thread? Just because it's not about them dose not mean it is a bash at them!

I like the JAE and I am looking at building an FE version...

If you don't like reading about FFs read another thread. This thread was put up to say there was a race and the FF21s dominated and to congratulate the winner.

Just driving home from Melbourne (Mexico) where the FF21s dominated.

Congrats to Ian Inverarity taking 1st with his FF21 Nova Rossi.

FF21s took 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th all Nova powered!

Ian also took fastest heat time for the class too with a 1.06

Also congrats to the RMBC for a great event!!
Thanks Bryan! It was neck and neck for a while! B)

I bet the FF handled a hell of alot better,in my veiwing of the jae they really dont like alot of chop, they just bounce all over while say a eagle is dead flat and just goes, there is a fellow member that was runnin in his jae .21 and hit a roller and blew the thing over, was my first time ever seein a rigger blow over like a hydro and every .12 thats in the club dont come back in when its just a little choppy,ya there decent boats but for me i will pass. And some i bet would be gettin tired of seein nothin but jae, it's really all thats in this foroum and so many other riggers out there, its reminding me of the Vegas wagon most were on and not even a year later that wagon slow down to next to nothin, every one really just needs to stop gettin butt hurt when somethin is said about there's or a peticular boat and just build and go play and have fun, there just opinions wich are like A holes, everyone has em !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious Matt who’s .21 JAE you saw blow over? I know that we have several 18 JAEs in the District but I do not for some reason remember who has a JAE21 nitro. I on the other hand I do have a JAE Fast electric built from Rod's plans not the kit and have driven it in some very rough conditions on purpose to see what the hull can handle. The hull is amazingly stable in all but the worst of conditions (1 foot troughs). In order to get mine to do anything bad I actually intentionally drove it hard through the wake of a gas rigger and gas sport hydro in Marysville at the spring fling. When the boat went through the 1ft deep hole left by the rigger it flipped (landing right side up) gee go figure a .21 size 4 lb boat flipping in the wake of not only a gas sport but a gas rigger in the corner where they carve the largest and deepest holes.

I am also curious about your "Vegas Bandwagon" statement. That class has brought in more new members to NAMAB District 8 than any class that I can remember. It also was our largest attended class for the 2009 season.

I find it fascinating that people would bash a boat like the JAE that is so easy to build has so far shown great promise in the hands of people that actually race. The JAE also looks to expand the ability of people to compete with little setup required and can be built in a weekend. It is early, and the coming race season should be interesting. Whose hull is best that will never be decided by a bunch of internet jockeys that never actually drive in competition, but rather by the 2010 race season and people that actually compete? I know that I will certainly be racing my JAE 21GE in the 2010 District 8 Championship Series in P Spec Hydro and with 13 second 1/6th mile lap times I bet it will be a competitive hull.

I do hope Matt that you can find the time to finish one of the many project boats that you show up with at the races and sign up to race it. I look forward to seeing you drive your new boat in a heat of competition. I know that I will be there driving my new JAE21GE that has sparked me looking forward to the coming race series.

Jim has a .21 Eric. If I remember correct that was the other loss of sponson at twin lakes. Personally I don't care what hull anyone is running including me, most hull's at one point or another have been #1. Good job again FF21's at your last race!! (I hope on day work will gimmie a race weekend off    )

jim's boat is the one i seen do that, it was at the small pond we test at but it did the craziest flip i have ever seen a rigger do just bouncin off a wake and the vegas comment, it was a hit like jae's are now and then started dyin down that i have noticed, hell i had 3 of em, hence why the stock and mods are now runnin together. Most i have seen and know that ran a vegas dont run them anymore and wont look back at rtr like myself. Far as my little hydro just waitin on a part so i cant paint her up and run. I have all the time could need just not enough to build. I am not tryin to bash the jae i just dont like how they handle maybe it's the little boat thing, there really bouncy in the rough. When i had my .15 sgx nothin would break it loose i am thinkin the reason is the angle/s that the sponsons have may help. I am no boat designer or expert but here a theory i had about this, take a 2by4 and a peice of say 3" pvc pipe and go out on a dock and slap each one the water and try to drag through it my guess the pipe will have less drag,so with a boat i would think a sponson with a angle/ round corner would absorb some of the impact on the chop and not bounce all over vurses a dead flat surface like a jae. i may not be makin any sense, just what i was thinkin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting theory ... hmmmmmm but wouldn't the flat surface stay on plan longer and get on plan easier then the angled / round cornered sponson with dihedral?

Anyone with fluid dynamic theory knowledge?

For two seasons I ran a 21 Firefighter rigger. It was a smoking boat. I would always get questions after running it about what boat is that and what engine. The CMB LS was bone stock. The best thing about this setup was the ease to drive. It handled great in traffic.

I liked the design so much that I have been running the gas version recently. It runs very similar to the smaller brother.

The JAE .21 handles the rough conditions better than the firefighter in my opinion

what the results dont say was that one of the Jae's at the race was 20 kph faster

than everybody else including me with my firefighter.

I was there and i can say there was no domination.

To me a domination is 1st, 2nd, 3rd and clearly fastest

firefighters were 1st and 3rd and not the fastest there.

Not bashing the firefighters at all i race one but just wanted to say my piece

it's one thing to have a boat that's fast and another to have one that can win races and be fast... Look at your tunnel Greg it wasn't the fastest there but you won every race you were in clearly dominating the field. No ones doubting Aarons JAE was quick but will it win every race it enters? That's yet to be seen..

What is clear though is if you want to go fast with a rigger you need to go Nova Rossi!!!

It just goes to show you that on any given day any boat can dominate. We can say that a certain brand did well or won, placed and showed but what we don't know is the full story behind the event which we've learned some of. Aome people can build, setup and race well, others can do part of these or none. If certain brands aren't at an event it means nothing to me.

The only thing that disappointed me with the JAE is that they seemed to have trouble staying in one piece. It seems they need a bit of R&D around the boom tube size/material selection and sponson mounting area, but I hear that is being addressed, why it wasn't addressed before releasing the kit is beyond me. Other than that, they seem like a great boat.

For the record, I don't own/race any shape or form of rigger, unless you class a Winston Eagle Lobster an oversized one!

Wow...... Very interesting topic we have here. The one thing i do know, is there is no magic bullet out there when it comes to rigger design. Non of the designs are perfect. Results will very from person to person. Much depends on how much time one is willing to spend on set-up and testing. What ever the design you like, the boat has to be straight and true, sharp edges etc. Not everyone is going to take a flat kit and get good results. There is still a place for pre-built boats, like the Blackbirds,Blackjacks, Crapshooters etc. Richard D

I'd have to say JAE's handled the chop much better than my FF21, which also won a heat in the rougher water in the later rounds. I was impressed by that part of them the most. The frail nature of the boom tubes used, somewhat canceled it out though. Fix that part and they will be awesome heat racing boats. No question.

Take some time and read Bernoulli's principle and Bernoulli's equation in fluid dynamics. Then do some educated experiments and testing. I see now why your observations having never driven one of these boats are confused. By the way Matt how about using spell check on your post ? There is a link to ieSpell that is free at the top of your post window.

Tim the boom tube issue was addressed by Joe Petro within days after he was made aware of it on the FE boats. See the "news" section. http://www.zippkits.com/

I suggest that anyone having trouble with them contact Joe. You may be suprised how fast the problem will be taken care of. ;)

Congrats on the Fire Fighters fellas!!!

Doug

PS Did I mention I love my JAE??

guys,

like ron z said earlier in another post.. jae, blackbird, firefighter eagle sg, jag whatever your flavor.. it is good to have MORE hydros in the classes.. i know here in d-4 & d-6... we struggle to get alot of hydros.. specially anything over 21 size.

so if something gets attention.. so be it.. better to have than nothing at all.

chris

CHILL OUT DUDE!!!! TAKE IT TO A PM...
Can we all just get along ?? We all love fast boats and there is no shortage of them B) .......and for those who have a boat they dont want to run no more because they saw another boat (rigger) hull win a race you can send your hull to me thank you lol!
