it's expensive for me too. I may try to add a stinger extension to my S pipe

Machining pipe parts from solid bars is a more expensive process than metal spinning, but the solid bar material is 6061 T6, which is much stronger than the comparatively soft material used for spun pipes. This means the pipes are much less likley to be damaged if they are hit, or where the header contacts the pipe.
