Looking at buying an ESC. Wanting to know which is the best for the money. Have a TP4050 Motor and have looked at the Hobby King Turnigy 180A and the Castle 200 Phoenix. What would be a better choice..?

Hi Cris what is the kv of your motor? I have a TP 4050 2390kv on my 6S saw rigger with a SF 300 Lite......depending on your kv you will need a good esc. This HV esc is good but pay attention to kv's motor cause amps can go to the roof in a glympse. Gill

That's my next thing Gil. Want to buy an ESC once. (well obviously unless you do something silly) Want a good one that's gonna last... Looking at a 4S setup. Is the 200A model large enough? with some latitude for setup and prop experimentation? Motor is going into a Sport Hydroplane.

Chris,

you need a 180-200A ESC to pair with that motor for reliable operation. The T-180's are a good choice as are the Castle's when converted to water cooling.

If you are not comfortable converting the air ESC to water cooling go with the Turnigy T-180.

On 4s with a 40X82 motor (3+watts) you may pull over 200amps. The old T-180's were capable but the last two I bought cut out at full throttle and no one seems to know why. (Turnigy and Seaking). That said I won't buy another. The SF 300 is very good but the size of a brick. I have a 28026 MGM lite that I have had no issues. 280 amp 2-6S. I believe they are just under $300. Very compact for a fit in a tunnel or hydro.

Appreciate the info. What about the Phoenix Ice Models or does it not matter. Next question is. Will putting a data logger in line Cause issues? ie: length of wire, increased number of connections??

I have an Eagle tree setup.

Another question: will the newer Castle ESCs hook up directly to the Futaba radios with telemetry??

I have one of the 4GRS radios

I guess that was the question. I didnt see the 4GRS radio in the chart. Probably ok to presume the the s-buss from one futaba will work with the rest of them ?? was wondering if anybody has had any experience with the combo in question...

I would tend to think no. If they had listed the 4PLS or something other than the 4PX I would say there is a good chance it will work. However all the radios listed are the flagship models.
