There was some GREAT close racing between the FE guys at the Nats. I think we all had a good time and appreciate the opportunity we got to ba able to even compete in such an important event.

Electric Mono

1. Tony Jones / Syncron / Neu / Barra 125

2. Kris Flynn / OvalMaster 26 / Hacker 8XL / Bara 80 (water cooled)

3. Andrew Gilchrist / Titan / Neu / Barra 125

Tony and I had some great battles with me leading 2 races for the first 3 laps or so then my driving letting me down to allow him to pass and take 3 wins. In the last race Tony asked Andrew to make the boat faster (because mine had the edge on him) but something happend and the boat wasn't as fast as before and a water line was split which filled the boat with water during the race and killed the speedo. I started the last race at bouy 5 when the race began and worked my wayto the front and took the win in the final race, because because i muffed the start, Tony won the event because he had a 2sec faster heat time than I.

L.S.H.

1. Shane Deacon / H&M Sport 21

2. Rob Corner / H&M Lobster (Winston)

3. Andrew Gilchrist / Cambel Shovel

We had plenty of glitching dramas with these boats, especailly the ones with RC-Hydros controllers, Rod and Shane had hackers and didnt seem to have a worry. I the 2nd race Andrew Started he won fairly convincingly (sp?) but shane just kept plodding round and round to take 3 wins and a 2nd.

Thanks to all who competed and travelled far to do so.

Kris

Kris did you guys run just the two classes? I want to keep my word and give a $50 gift certificate to the winner of the lhs and mono class. Give me an email when you get a chance.

Hey Kris....

good racing ya mate! (and Shane, Rob and Andrew)

Had fun with the leccies at the Nats. Might just have to build one for myself now!

Thanks to Andrew G for the use of the boat.... went nice!

cheers

Tony

Hi Kris,

Thanks for the update! Congratulations on your mono efforts. What happenened with your Viper - glitching problems? Dave told me his boats had dramas, which is a shame.

Was it as choppy as BotB - those two winning boats are massive for LSH!

How did your .21 tunnels perform?

I am mostly pi#$ed off that my lifter did not go. I had that boat tested running fantastic on the sunday, then all i did was take shaft out an rudder off for shipping. Very strange that i was glitching. I was hoping jeff would have a few good racers with it. It is a fast LSH, sepecially when there is a brand new 700 in it compaired to a 2year old abused one.

what happened with the split hull and the barra?

David

PS. Any one seen my cabover :)

last time i saw it it was sitting off boy 5

Hey Tony

You topped and tailed that race - X mono and electric mono well done. Congrats also on your 12 cell race win and new record with the 'slow' motor and fast times in X and B mono Gee those Neus are crap! I have to say when Australias two winningest mono racers (yourself and Frank) start praising my boats thats the thrill that counts.

Kris - you have next year to look forward to. Thanks for all the attention you paid myself, my boat setup and the products over the weekend. They ran great. Your Barra 80 got you a win too. Keep in mind if you want Castle Hacker MGM Schulze or Kontronik& JR fastelectrics deals in all of them. Pity about the problems you guys had in LSH - Gibbo came and saw me and we sorted his problem quick smart.

Dave I told you last night, 2 hours before you posted, what happend to the Barra - after 1 lap underwater at 73 amps they blew. I also told you there was one split water hose and one I left off which causes the problems. My problem. I also learnt a lot about them which will be very handy. Castle Creations Barracuda 125 ran faultlessly for us when I gave them a chance. Kris got a second with an Barracuda 80 and I couldnt see anything wrong with it. He did say his JR R1 was getting radio interference from DSM's

Re Castles KEEP THEM DRY - the plugs between the boards are the weakness and 80 is easy to keep clean and dry as there is only one set the 125 has a second set between the two boards which mean desoldering the boards to clean the pins or return to factory for a service. If you ever see condensation in a ziplock bag do not open it return the controller immediatley.

Shane and Tony are going to love those vouchers.

Kris won the Eagle Trees data logger I donated.

Or are they?

Andrew,

The logger looks sweet...just need to upgrade my computer to at least 98SE again so I can use it :)

Tony and Shane will also get the vouchers I just need to let them know :D

My tunnels went alright when they made it around bouy one :) I stuffed up in the last heat, I had a chance to get up into second place overall but I stuffed the boat straight after launch.

Kris

David,

have they found your boat yet?

Tony

Tony,

I have not heard anything yet. I do hope that they find it as there is only one cabover left in AUS if mine is never found. Jason has a mate who has a colour sounder - not sure if they have had much luck. Might have to email jason again.

Last i spoke to him was tuesday and there was noting yet. Im just keen to get my radio back so i can run a boat agian. I have been out of action for 4 weeks and it is killing me

David

David, im sure they will find your boat, theres a couple sitting on the bottom of the lake.

Tony building an electric boat?? should be interesting! maybe you could use some bits from the copters hehe :p

Ken

Hopeful that it will be found

The boat hull might need to be worked on heaps, what is inside is gone for sure.

Will be interesting to see what damage was done to the hull

Tony.

Electric, LSH or mono?

Is this one your own boat or a loaner from andrew. Will be good to see you get one and race at Winter spec.

There looks like there will be 3 heats of LSH and mono there. I heard that people wanted to put more cells into LSH. Make it like mono 12cell BL or 16cell 700. I will ask the guys in my club tomorow what they want to do but there are several coming down and ony 2 that have 16cell packs. Might not be able to get the speeds up in the LSH class at this event.

Perhaps you can adopt a chopper prop and make an air boat. Rules only state one drive line :)

David

dont think you could spin a 30 inch prop in the water.....

Rules do say must be driven by water reaction, or something like that.

meaning prop must be in the water.

does your boat have a brushless motor? would water do much damamge to one of those being only windings and magnets?

Ken

lol....

When I build an electric boat....I am looking at an A' Mono size hull and intend to make it competitive with A' Mono nitro boats. I have the hull already, just toying with power systems at the moment. This of course will run in the Open category.

Definately looking at a high voltage setup.

Ken,

no the boat just has a 700 size motor in it. Cost was about 90bucks. Nothing compared to some BL motors out there. IT my work, but magnets, steal can, and copper tend to rust.

BL motors rust really bad. Neo magnets i think are in them, not sure what metal/alloy they are composed of but i would not like to leave on in the water for as long as the boat has been down there for. Parts can be replaced, just depends on how bad the damage is.

Speed control might still be OK. It is sealed with epoxy, and with no battery current from the power cells into it, there should be little corrosion. Might have to be sent back for repairs but that is still cheaper than a new one. If it works that is great as it is Kris flynn's and it will also be a good marketing thing for the maker of the speed control.

Tony.

Mono's are not really my thing. I have a few, but i like my sport hydros and tunnels. Im thinking of a 29inch mono, for some speed but perhaps that might be later on. 36inch 24cells would be great and perhaps beat some 7.5 monos no problem.

My current projects take first place. Till they are finished i wont worry about other things. 18cell hydro and 1/8th scale are going to add up in cost really quickly. After that i might build a big mono or 3.5 tunnel. Not sure. Either way it will be good if you have a mono, loaned or yours that you can race at winter spec. Would be good learning experience driving against you, and watching you drive.

David

So getting down to some serious racing now! when are we going to start running riggers!

also Andrew can you please send me the new rules so i can have a look.

Regards

dave
