It’s always satisfying to see the end result of your build. I finished the Base color and clear coat. Man it was a late night last night. Now I just have to buff it out and put it back together and it’s ready for the pond.

Thanks Jerry, I used the 28 inch electric plans and increased the size to make this Boat. Dave explains in the 28 inch plans that iit has the same riding surfaces as his spot 40 has.

I was wondering if you knew how close the 28 inch plans are to the real sport 40 Dave built for you and your son. If there are differences what would they be, and are the Dave Frank sport 40 plans available anywhere.

I also started an electric One enlarged to 32 inches with the set up you told me about.

Anyway, I really like how this boat turned out.

Thanks Jerry
Jim

Don't mean to steal your thread Jim, but the DF Sport 40 was one of "The Boats" of the many I have owned over the years. The boat was on the cover of the 1987 edition of U.S. Boat and Ship Modeler. Our daughter, Denise in her middle school drill team uniform, is holding it. Hard to believe that was 35 years ago.

That's the plans I have...one of the guys in our club built that boat when nitro was hot here in namba d1. Boat is not built the same. it's 36" long and not a 3 part build its frame built. I was going to make the center different as I believed it had too much lift in it. At the time my club mate was running an ops 45 and it was too light on the water...imagine a cmb...probably wouldn't finish a heat unless it's set up perfectly

Well lay26 I was warned about the fact that this boat had a lot of lift in it by other boaters but I just had to build it did I.

Let me see what I can do with this boat if I can make it competitive I would probably be interested and buying the plans from you.

This boat is 37 1/2 inches long and almost 19 inches wide after enlarging the 28 inch plans.

If this boat doesn’t work out I’d probably be better off just sticking with the tried and true like a Phil Thomas stealth

thanks
Jim

Your welcome on my thread anytime Jerry. Cool boat, and A great accomplishment be on the cover of a magazine great history Jerry thank you

Dave has 2 versions of plans for the sp 40. The original had a lot of lift. It was standard frame style boat. The second version had a wing style center section. This was a 3 piece build. You built the sponsons up on the inside rail on a flat surface. I built and raced it for many years before I got my Mutt2. ALmost won the 98 nats with it. Was trying for a good time my last heat and the pond monster got me going into the right corner on the 5 lap. Blew her off. Ended up tied for 5 with 4 wins and a DNF. Still have plans around some where.

I do believe that the evolution the Dave frank design in the best configuration is two boats...1 the latest phill thomas sport 40
2. The Ac sport 40
I know for a fact that the work has been done in those two boats more done in the pt40cause this boat went through a few changes..the Ac had just 2 generations and the last mold that Andy made is the current one that is in production...dont know if Wayne built any recently.but those are two of the best based of Df designs...recently. always wanted to get a Anderson mutt 2 but never was able to.. my top 5 sport 40 list based on what I've run would be
Gen 1 Blazer 40
Pt 40
Ac 40
Mutt 2 40
Mto round nose 40
