Tom. When I fit the magnets I put a drop of jb weld in the hole and recess the magnet very slightly and peen over the edge of the aluminium. Never had one come out yet.

I just pressed the magnet into a ( too small ) hole , its still working so far .

Lohring ,

One of my customers seems to have the problem that , after a few laps ( electric racing ) that his speed isn't correct anymore , it looks like there is water coming in the tube . Has this problem happened with u too ? any solutions ?

Regards ,

Bart

I just got an Eagle Tree data logger with a water pressure sensor. It isn't calibrated yet, but I plan to run it against a radar gun and check it for data scatter. I have been testing the exhaust gas temperature sensor on my gas crackerbox. I haven't gotten much data because of boat setup problems, but the unit works. The sensor is fine for a gas boat but is huge for a 3.5 outboard. I have a small thermocouple that should work on an outboard. I plan to test that as well. I'm going to the NAMBA Nationals, and that will limit the testing until the end of July.

Hmmmm measuring airspeed.... anyone remember to take into account the wind velocity at the time??? yes that will cancel out if you take averages of the front and back straight but just keep that one in mind....

EMS Racing Why cant we have a tail wind all the way round the course???

My testing with the air speed sensor did pick up differences due to wind speed. The problems with vibration on the sensitive air pressure sensor were much worse.

Guys,

I just want to tell everyone about my first ride with the BDR installed in the boat. I can just say it worked great and I learned a lot from it!! Though, I had to add a special battery pack to the recorder because my rudder servo demanded a lot of power so the recorder kept restarting when I just used the RX acc pack. I also had problems with the the speed measurement with the air pitot tube - jumpy numbers.

I haven't tuned my pipe yet so the RPM was just up to 16 000 and according the engine manual top rpm should be around 20-21 000. To see my data and graphs presented in an MS Excel file see:

By the way I used two component Epoxy to glue my magnet in small hole in the fly wheel. It's still there.

What is the update rate for the data logs?

one data log / sec? 10 logs / sec? ???

plots look good.

Dan,

There is a discussion about this at www.rcdatarecorder.com about storage capacity and so on but you can set your selft how often you want it to log and how many parameters. I think you can log up to 20 times per sec.

At four samples a second I've been able to record open water testing plus three heats of racing. I prefer 10 samples per second for non race testing to get more meaningful data. I've been recording throttle position, rpm, and cylinder temperature.
