Has anyone tried or looked into putting a D5 flatwire arm and end bell on a Lightning Man motor? I thought using a flat wire arm with the Neo magnets would make for an interesting experiment. There may be some benifit to the larger brushes as well. Also, are there other brushed motor makers that use Neodymium magnets in their motors besides LM?

hi

use the 12/3 flatwire and use a hi torque armature blank - this is the most important characteristic more torque and better hi amp efficiency

the better brushgear and brsuhes will reduce resistance and improve efficiency and power/amp draw and output across the rev band - they should also increase rpm by a couple of % ie a winning edge

Use high % = 9% silver brush if you can get it and polarised sprongs (black in +ve hood purple in -ve hood)

this will be a mono scale hydro motor

With standup brushes and the common small com 05 arm this motor still holds the 6 cell mono race record driven by the master Dick Crowe.

On 8 cells it is the fastest mono motor I am aware of. In 2001 SAW's Dick Crowe clocked in excess of 42 mph using one of these. Only sensorless brushless motors were faster - the 1409/1.5 motored boats were out of the hunt. On the oval it has a great top end and is easy to drive thru turns.

The new arm and brushes offer an exciting opportunity to go to the next level with the motor and the brush wear which is already exceptional should be improved even further.

Other brushed motor makers with neo magnets are - Mega, Lehner, Plettenberg, ModelMotor (Velkom), Graupner ( ie relabelled Johnson Mabuchi & Plettenberg) and several others which are mainly targetted at planes. None will match this motor at this stage.

Please contact me at andrew@ fastelectrics.com as i am very interested in your project and can provide tuning and setup advice to help u get the most out of it

Andrew. Can I get some of your theory on why run a triple? They're supposed to be better at high rpms right? But why? I do understand that flat wire means you can put more of it in there so you'll have a lower resistance, but why 3 wires is better at high rpms than low is what I'm curious about. If put on a dyno beside each other, will a triple have more power at a certain high rpm than a single?.......or does it have higher power throughout the rpm range?

Ya'll need to quit posting those high 8 cell speeds. I'm gonna end up putting 8 in my 4 cell boat. ;D

RE SPrings

my balck springs are heavier than my purple - i think this is because i use a mix of suppliers

trinity black spings are ligther than their purple - use a trinity silver in the positive hood

Gene

why 3's they seem to be a good balance with the props we have and its what I tested with singles will draw more current - experiment
