The rulebooks say that any boat with more than one wetted suface is considered a hydroplane

Another example of "you gotta first finish to finish First", if I remember a Cat won a hydro class years ago at the Indy Masters as well as Sport Hydros for the same reason.

OK, to clarify. You can run a cat in a sport hydro class.
 
Yes Sean, it is. A very old one at that. Frank has been racing that boat and motor (gold head CMB 90) for 20-ish years.
 
like everyone has say a cat is a type of hydro. they are usually separated though because there are so many catamarans and there are other types of hydros that are more diverse
