Who sells 5/16 or .312 or 8mm(all the same thing or very close) cf hollow rods to make boom tubes for my hawk rigger and won't kill me on the shipping ??

Terry

the composite store is pretty good . I just bough some glitter tissue don't know where to put it ,seems to have a sharpness when laid on mahogany.will need more than 1 coat. still experimenting. I have a 67 rigger that has fiberglass fence post from the Farm & Tractor Store as booms.no stress cracks yet http://www.cstsales.com/index.html

A lot of people are using carbon fiber arrow shafts. Walmart, or any archery shop.

I think you will find that the Arrow shafts are only 1/4 inch. They would be more for a .12 size rigger.

Zach

wally world does sell the cf arrows and and if you get lucky some will fit ... but they are usually camo and 13-14 bucks a pop which i though was a bit steep and they are too short to get 2 good tubes out of or it would not be too bad.

Arrow shaft for a BOOM TUBE ?? Pushrod maybe .

Yes tom boom tubes for a 21 rigger no problem that way if you hit a bouy they snap and safe you boats.

Ever heard of gary preusse or steve ball ...some of the best running riggers and that's what they use....

Need i say more ???

I would say get ahold of Gary Preusse if ya need boom tubes for a Hawk. In regards to Gary using an arrow shaft on any of his Hawks I guess its possible but I personally have never seen that.

Paul

Guys,

Unless there's been a change in what the archery guys are using, arrow shafts are WWWWAAAYYYY too flexible for boom tubes. Arrow shafts are designed with linear, lengthwise impact in mind, not lateral flex. If you watch any high speed film of an arrow coming off a bow, if flexes and wobbles all over the place for the first 10ft. or so, and that's from linear thrust with no lateral force to speak of being applied.

What you want for your hawk is solid CF rod. Go to the link Mark supplied and look at the 5/16" solid CF rod. THAT is what Gary Preusse will tell you to get. He won't even recommend the CF tubes that ACP sells (and what comes in the kit, I believe) as they are too flexible, as well.

Thanks. Brad.

I use the 5/16" solid CF rod on my 40 boat, works well. Had them on my 60 but went to 3/8" for a more rigid setup.

I seem to remember the "Zee Man" talking about using different boom tubes on his Ninja and saying the handling was differerent with the different "flex", anyone else find this?

How 'bout it "Z"?

You are correct TK, good memory (no pun intended). I do use different flexes for different handling.

Now i have purchased some pushrod kits her locally from airplane guy and it says right on the label that they are CF arrow shafts..Don't know what to tell you and i have spoken with more than one guy on this on the phone and please don't qoute me on this but i though for sure one was Gary Preusse during one of a few hawk question and answer period.

Anyway , Zach is hooking me up with some CF tubes and we'll see how that goes.

You guys could very well be correct, the arrow shafts i looked at looked like they had pretty thin walls.

thanks guys i'll get it sorted out.I am not going to use solid shafts that would be too hard on the other parts during a bouys strike.

Now that's a "goalie" answer if I ever heard one!

Seriously tho, what changes in the handling from the "soft" to "hard" ride? Was the cornering different?

The softness of the booms helps in rough water, keeps the sponsons from slapping so hard, and keeps the hull more stable. Going from the old aluminum booms to the carbon was the first indicater,we just took it further. Corner speed was the same as far as I could see.
