Don,

Email this guy. Craig Fraser of Air Syndicate at [email protected]. He custom paints a lot of stuff and is a regular contributer to several trade magazines dealing with custom paint. This address is an advice column. He'll put you in the right direction.

The same polish I use on my props is what I use to polish my boats. It is called FLITZ and can be found at most motorcycle shops. Doesn't take alot of elbow grease and will polish anything.

Flitz? Hmmm, sounds interesting Bob. Does it leave any residues that need to be cleaned off before waxing?

"I was amused"

It is a fact that a lack of knowledge can create amusement. Sure you can go on past 1000 or 1200 grit paper....or you can use a couple of the right compounds that are made to cut and polish. When I was building lifesize boats we had several compounds that would cut 600 to 800 scratches out to a show finish (in gelcoat and paint) without a tremendous amount of buffing. And besides, everyone has their own way that works for them.

Just got off the phone with my local PPG supplier & he said 3-M "Finesse-it" is the best way to go. Told me that being at a 1500 wet sand point it should shine up like a mirror very quickly by hand. Thanks guys, I'm off to get some "Finesse-it" & will post more pics in the scale section when she's shiny. :)

"Finesse-it" That's the ticket there Don. KP used some on a unrelated project and it works great! You can get it in different formulas as well.

Those who have suggested other means need to visit Don's house and see the way his Bud(s) look. The finish is as good or better than any show car I have ever seen. We aren't talking about buffing out a little bird doo-doo on the new Corvette. Don removes the scratches the fly left when it landed on the cured paint. It is no wonder why it will win Concours.

after the compound I would also use the "Finesse-it" hand glaze

with a foam pad before the wax...

it will keep any spots that were not buffed to well from coming back.

that is the good part about glaze is it helps you out a little...

but don't let the wax come off!!! or the glaze is gone...

Well after a "test run" with the 3-M "Finesse it" this stuff works great. Should have this baby glowing before bedtime, wax 'er up tomorrow & put all the pieces on. Might get to run her this Sunday! :D

Just Kidding, but I had to take the shot.

Hey Preston-

That fly you were talkin' about earlier.... he tried to land on the freshly polished deck and slid off into oblivion............ :p

Patience Russell, still got to wax it a couple times before it goes back together. Should be done by the weekend. :)

Need to get it done as I start new job Monday. Man that 9 month vacation went by fast. <_<
