Do they make an electric brushless for a 3.5 tunnel hull boat outboard.

This would seem to be an ideal set up .. fast, clean and can use batteries to balance boat .

I'm using an AMMO 36-50-2300 on my TS2. There's several other FE boaters here in the Northwest setting up TS2s with brushless motors.

Richard,

Check out this link, Fuller's Fast Electrics Hardware Page and scroll down until you see the "Carbon Fiber Outboard"...

It comes ready to bolt your motor to... Get yourself a Brushless motor of choice, and don't forget to order the coupler, and you'll be on your way...

Looks like this, by the way (this one happens to have a brushed motor, but same deal...):

Check out the Top Speed 2 conversion threads on this site... I'm just about done with mine...

How will the electric motors react to water.?? as the boats sooner or later will get upside down in the water

Well... You dry them out... re-oil the bearings... and get back to racing... It's usually the batteries or ESC that fail from water... Brushed motors lose spring tension on the brushes when they are hot and suddenly quenched, but Brushless seem to just keep working... The ones I've seen fail were from lack of maintenance after they've been wet...

I suppose we'll see for certain in a few weeks... ;)

Good to know..thanks for the info

I have a couple converted . I had the same concern.I asked Steve NEU about spraying Corrosion X in the Motor. He said not to use any oil base product. If its not under water long , wash out with clean water and bake in an oven at 300 deg for a couple hrs to dry out. oil the bearings.

So far , I've been able to drain the water and keep running them . They seem to dry out.

I havent tried my NEU motors on them yet .

Ive just started running my Neu motor on the back of my OBT.

Have been lucky not to flip the boat and have the motor drowned.

On my setup the motor sits high enough so that at rest it is out of the water.

Maintaince i guess will just be like my Hacker motor that use to run on the back of it. When it gets wet, turn the boat upside down then drain the water from the motor. A quick spray of oil on the bearings then get back out there.

When i pulled my hacker apart after 2 years, there was not a bit of rust inside it. A small can of compressed air would be useful to blow all the water out. Neu motor have the advantage with all the holes in the end balls that enables you to see inside. Also good to get water out. Hacker was a pain in that the water would drain out the wire holes and you couldnt see inside. Never the less the high quality motors will be fine on the back of OBT. THey will need more maintaince but its worth it.

Hi Richard,

I use the KB leg, modded by BBY(I think), with an Align 600L/XL motor, soon to be Neu motor.

Here is a short vid of it's first run. I have a bit more work to do.

I reckon you could use any lower, lawless, REK, KB, even the OS lower from tower. You just have to make/get your adaptor plate for motor/leg fit. KB is my prefered leg as the coupler fits lower down and does not need another inch of height to mount an elec motor.

The elec motors I use are in the KV range of 1550 to 1700, to match props x437 to 442 with no over heating of motor/esc. I have dunked the boat twice and had no ill effects of the Align donk, which has a fan. I dry it out afterwards, el natural. Here is a vid of the Skater setup:

double post - sorry.

I built a brushless outboard and it is water resistant. I fabricated a lower cover out of fiberglass and bought the upper cover from an EP1. It seals well enough to keep the water out for several min. when upside down. Motor stays completely dry during regular runs.
