Boating in Idaho

Is there any model boating activity in or around the Boise area?

There used to be quite a few years ago. Usually had some guys racing every weekend. But as the city grew, ponds became harder and harder to access. And to many hobby shops to list have come and gone around here. There Is Interest, but limited and getting a group of Interested people and a place to run seems to be difficult If not Impossible.

My son moved to the Boise area over the past weekend. He wanted me to build boats for him and his son but I've been dragging my feet. I'm glad I didn't do it if there's no place to run them.

I'm not saying there Is no place at all. I have a .45 rigger and a couple .21 Tunnel Hulls. But places are a little hard to find. And I'm pretty sure the City of Boise has banned RC watercraft in the City parks although there are allot of parks with ponds. There are a couple Lakes not far, but you have to find the right time and a little luck mostly because of full size boats. There are several gravel Pits with ponds that are perfect. But getting access is the problem there. All the places we use to run have either banned RC watercraft or they have been built around. More Interest In the Hobby would help. Maybe your Son will have more luck finding a decent place to run then I have. And as far as any organized activities there are none that I am aware of. Last I raced was In Oregon about an 1hr. 1-1/2hr. drive from Boise. Oregon was where the last active clubs I knew of were at within reasonable distance. But near as I can tell that has faded as well.

I'm going to be there next month. I'll have a couple of boats and some gas powered trucks.

Namba runs at twin lakes in Washington. If you are a member of Namba or Impba if you ask city or town council's and show them your insurance it may help in getting permission. Look at Hobart!!
