Some place in my history files of model boating memorabilia, I have an 8mm movie of Ed making the 58 mph record run at the WMRBA event. I will try to find it. I agree with all of the previous posted accolades about Ed. Truly a marvelous builder and a great guy. It was my privilege to personally meet and talk with him. After almost 50 years, to still be remembered in such high regard, speaks volumes to the kind of person Ed was. Jerry Betke

Hey Guys,

If you look at the record sheet Grim posted Jack Bucknell held records back in the day - Jack was a member of the Wolverine Club (Detroit) and came out of the ranks of AMA control line speed & rat racers like John Ackerman (Indy). He is still around and from what Jerry Betke said showed up at a race in London Ont. Canada a couple of years ago. My two favorite memories of Jack are is an engine that he took parts from Super Tigre, OPS and Jack Bucknell, yup he had it down the side of the case SOB, ran great! The next was arriving to test at our pond at Belle Isle early on a Wednesday afternoon and seeing Jack setting indian style on one of the benches in front of a fire ----- you guessed it - he was burning a new hull that wasn't performing to his expectations!!!! Lots of history and expertise between Detroit and Indy Clubs back in the day!!!! Jerry Betke was a big part of all that happened there, his technical advice and guidance to John Bridge regarding the type of gears to use on the first twin were very much responsible for the success of the geared boats running for more than a single tank of fuel before tearing up a set of gears.

Thanks, John
