I will use this thread for information. We will move the start time up to 8 am drivers meeting 7:45 . We will also discuss changing the format to get this race completed and racers on the way home as early as possible Sunday

Run all four heats for total points but cut the last round down to the top 6 boats in each class. SO 36 heats at 8 minutes is 288 by 60 is 4.8 hr per round. 10 minute heats would thake 6 hr per round. Having just one heat per class in the 4th round would save 23 heats and at 8 mintues per heat the last round would take 1.7 hr. Still the race will take 16 + hr to finish. Still have to not have any delays to get it done. every one has to be ready to race.

I have to agree with Phil but instead of top 6 make it top 4 so people will race hard and not just try to make the top 6. It will push the racers to race hard from round 1 all the way to the end.

Just my opinion.

The top six should be in the hunt for the top three spots. running the top 4 would not make any less heats. Plus they will run just as hard as the top 4 if not harder as there will be more points for the front runners to loose. With the size of these classes, you will have to push hard if you want to win from round one on. That guy in 6th has to be within 400 pts of the guy in first to even have an outside shot at the win.

I'm not a fan of the shootout format but hey whatever the contest director wants to do is fine by me. Lets race I'm

Ready.

Julian

Top six is the way to go. I wish everyone could run the 4th round, but we just have so many heats, I think it will take too long.

Jeff it can be done but the racers have to be ready to race and have there pitman ready no exceptions. Once the retrieve boat hits the dock your on the clock. Race from 1st light until dark no breaks just race.

Guys, Shootout Format to me is grouping the heats by points. To me this makes the results more pertinent because to win you must beat the 2nd and 3rd place guys in at least one heat.

Now, we did run a winner take all system that took only the top six in the 4th round, and the trophy's went to the finishing order of the final heat. For this race We are NOT doing this. The last round points will add to the previous 3. So to place, you will still have to accumulate the most points possible in all four rounds.

I don't like the shootout format reason being you can win all the rounds and them lose everything in 1 heat not the way I like to race. Then the person that did not win a heat or finish can win the class because of the format prefer the regular heat race format and call it the day.

But I'm not the cd I'm just a racer ;-) perfect example had a boater at little thunder last year not start or finish a heat but in the last round finish 3rd and that's what he placed that's not right to me.

Ill run whatever format is ran I'm going to Afghanistan after the race I'm just trying to have some fun.

In my opinion the best way to go if you want to make the last round top 6 only is that those top 6 carry ALL their points into the final round. That way every single heat matters all the way to the end. B)

BINGO Don thats what will happen. Jules we could run all 4 rounds but you would be loading boats in the dark and we wont do that.

If you make the top 6 for the 4 th round maybe you willhave a good enough point spread to take it easy and not have to go for a first place, lots of variables by the fourth round, or maybe there would be 3 or 4 boats tied for first going into the fourth round HA..

I agree that only the top 6 boats running in the 4th round to save time. Since this is a D-14 points race, to make it fair for the D-14 guys, then only the points earned for the first three rounds should count toward the district total.

I heard no one was signed up for the points race other than the scale guys.

So lets get signed up at our race!

This format should be considered for all races...

I think it should be accumulative points. If you get first in all 3 heats and then make to the top 6 then something happens then what was the point of finishing first in the first 3 heats.

Thats how it will be Sam. Be sure and tell everyone you know we are starting early

Guys, we ran the shootout format for the Gas Nats. It's not a winner take all final. You take your points right to the end. Some classes had only 200 points separating the first and sixth place guys. A guy that went into the final round in forth came away with the win for the class. If you win the class then you beat the best running guys that weekend. SHOOTOUT ROCKS!!!
