I went to the lake up at Fremont Sunday to run boats and one of the guy's was running one (CMB Purple head .45) on a Lee Craft, it was really fast.

Is it a tough set up to get running?? I've never seen anyone using one so I'm tempted to get one.

The price though is staggering which is why I'm sure most peole aren't using them.

Any advice would be great.

Yo Rod,

Occasionally, I see one at the pond pushing an aerotech. It consistently runs in the 50's. If I ever go .45...I'll definitely be getting one of Jim’s Irwin Nitro 2000 units. I priced one up about a month ago and it's not for the faint of heart/wallet....but it's an easy motor to get results from (as long as you don’t break a rod) :)

as always....No Pun Intended

Interesting a question about the CMB 45 should appear, I just installed mine on the HTB 360 II. Going to try it out tomorrow.

That $700 price tag(and I really don't know the price) includes the lower unit(a LawLess that has been modified) and I'm thinking the tuned exhaust system. The engine does hold the NAMBA straightaway record in 7.5 Mod Tunnel. However, I think Mark Grim "danced" on it.

There are now two different configurations for the CMB .45. I run the original configuration, which is on a Lawless foot. The new configuration is suited for a K&B foot. Yes, we did set the NAMBA straighaway record with it, and yes, Mark Grim did "dance" on the engine a bit.

It does take some work to get it to run right. It's like running a .67 as far as the impact of torque and weight, and expect to run a different prop than you do with any other .45.

Attached is a picture of the setup on my boat.

Thanks everyone! Thanks Chris for the Pix.

The one I saw was on a Lawless with the special steering bracket. Only thing I wasn't found of is the carb straight up in the air.....Do you need an air filter or do you have to make a splash gaurd if you race it?

Kev,

pretty funny pun

Chris, is that an Aerotech or LeeCraft you have there??

Also, I noticed you don't have a cradle for the pipe to sit in. You don't worry if the boat flips it will rip of that arm holding it?

I lost one last year, brand new style Irwin pipe sitting in that same set up!

Rodney,

If you look closely next to the pressure line, you will see the pipe support.. Connects to the cavitation plate..

Ran the CMB 45 on the new HTB 360 II today and was pleased with the results. The water was rather choppy and this combination really handled it well. The top speed isn't as fast as the smaller 7.5 mod boats, but handling was impressive under the water conditions.

The boat is the Seismic Aftershock which we manufacture (another picture attached). The boat took two class wins at the NAMBA Nats and a second and third. The boat in the picture currently hold the NAMBA B Mod Tunnel two lap record. That particular boat was lengthened 1 5/8" to keep the same relative position from the rear of the sponson to the end of the prop shaft as it would if a K&B foot were on it. This also helps keep the pivot point at the trailing edge of the sponsons.

No filter or splash guard ever needed. Just don't drive in the spray! When this boat is on its game you don't need to race that close, just drive around the outside. :D

Chris,

I like how the sponsons look really solid and very wide like a real tunnel. What's your web page address so I can go view prices. Or post the cost of the 7.5 for me......Maybe that's a winter building project?

Several parts of the boat were designed based on the Hoffman F1 Tunnel which our teammate Jimmy Johnson used to help build. Until recently our boats were built in the Hoffman shop. At this point we have taken the boats off the website. If somebody was serious about running the boat and would follow our setup instructions closely Jimmy would likely build a boat for them. We can build either an expoxy boat or carbon. Price, $250 to $350. I have activated them on the website so you can see them. Click Here to go directly to the category.. I've got pictures of other boats in case you want to see them.

Chris,

Thanks for setting that up for me. $250 is a little more in my price range. How far in advance do you need to place an order. I'm thinking if I do buy one it would be the end of September.

;) HEY YALL: THANKS FOR THE PRAISES ON THE CMB OUTBOARD THAT I PUT TOGETHER , PRICING ? YES IT IS PRICY , BUT AS THEY SAY , HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO / AND HOW FAT IS YOUR POCKET BOOK ?? I BIUILD THIS OUT OF WHAT I FEEL IS THE FINEST PARTS MONEY CAN BUY , AND IT WILL DO WHAT THEY ARE SAYING , IT HAS UNLIMETED TOURQE/RPM . I NOW HAVE THE KITS AVAILABLE SO YOU CAN INSATALL IT ON YOUR FAVERIT BOAT , KIT . MEANING YOU CAN PURCHAS ANY PART YOU NEED . THE REASON FOR THE PRICE INCREASE IS THE EURO HAS RISEN WAY UP , THESE MOTORS HAVE WENT UP OVER $100 IN THE LAST YR.

I STILL FEEL THIS THE BEST YOU CAN GET REGARDLESS OF PRICE . IF YOU WANT A MOTOR COMBO THAT WILL LAST A VERY LONG TIME , THEN BITE THE BULLET AND GET ONE , GOD BLESS
