San Diego Argonauts if memory serves.

Have him check the NAMBA site and that should steer him

in the right direction.

San Diego has a great club and a bunch of nice people running model boats. Get on the NAMBA website and email the NAMBA President, Al Waters. He is from the San Diego area and can get you with the local boaters right away.

Hi guys... The friend is me... :)

I spoke to a guy named Bill, director of power of the San Diego Argonauts. The spot here seems to be the Model Yacht Pond in Mission Bay. The problem: It's saltwater. Julian, wasn't pleased to hear that at all. Kinda scared me that my engine and boat were going to disintegrate on contact :D Haha. However, my first boat and my first club is Puerto Rico, was running on saltwater.

The only other lake I'm aware of that that is freshwater, is Legg Lake, but unfortunately, that's 2 hours or more away.

There are other lakes closer, like Lake Hodges, but I doubt I'd be allowed to run my boat there. It's a like a state park or something.

Apart from that, Lake Dixon (too small and used for fishing) and Lake Calavera (a possibility, but probably too small). I don't think anybody runs boats there.

Going back to the model yacht pond... It's a good size, not choppy, you can walk all the way around it to retrieve your boat, and it's good picnic and grassy areas to hang out with the fam. But again, salt.

hi, first off, my condolences that you are friends with julian.. :p , we have ran in salt water for more years than i care to remember and as long as you fresh water the boat, hardware and the motor(water jacket too)you will be just fine. mike.

Danny,

I know its 2hrs to Legg Lake but you should come up this Sat. or Sun. There will be SAW time trials! Pretty sure there will be some 120+mph nitro & electric passes, and maybe a 100+mph gas pass!! (I HOPE)

Don :)

Hey Danny,

It is simply not as Dramatic as that. There has been racing on the Model Yacht Basin for years, and the boaters there will be more tha glad to help you out. Your tools get added to a bit to include a fresh water source - most use a garden sprayer with pump on the top. Corrosion X, and gallon jugs of WD 40 will become your Friend, and it's better to use black steel screws in aluminum than stainless steel. Clean the boats as soon as you can after running - you'll only put that off a couple days ONCE.

Pic of site attached. CHEERS !!! Bob

@Don - I was going to drive up to Legg Lake last Sunday, but they where running Thunderboats and hydroplanes... I didn't want to go up there for that! :) But yes! I'm coming up this Sunday. Will you be there? or any of the the other guys here?

@Michael - Haha. I take no responsibility for putting Julian on the spot! :p He's a really cool guy and definitely knows his boats. Glad he has the benefit of fresh water.

@Dasboatman - To be perfectly honest, I've never run a boat in freshwater! That includes rc boats and full-size boats. And for the looks of it here in SD, it's either going to be salt, or no boating at all. I'll take the boating with the extra maintenance. All it means is some parts (like bearings) need to be replaced more often.

My old Dumas I used to run in salt. And worse, Puerto Rico. (Way saltier than SD). The boat's still fine and purdy. I just have to get it shipped here from PR.

Julian... Where are you? Chime in.

Danny,

Yes I will be there both Sat. & Sun. A few others from this form will be there also.

Don :)

@Don - I'll be out there tomorrow. PM me your number please, and I'll call you when I'm there.

Mike next time we race ill make sure ill shower you again with my twin when im test firing it LOL. its allot of maintenance of the boat and hardware, water cooling jacket ect. but hey when you have to run you run corrosion X, WD40 and several other lubricants will be you best friends.

Danny mike and i are best friends he just has to give me crap all the time lol but we race and have a great time.
