Hi Jeff. If you are interested in racing in IMPBA and wish to join the ''Northern Lights Model Boat Club'', contact me. We have 27 members in our club. I think you already know TY from your club. He decided to join our club too.

Thanks ....................... Randy (Stoney Creek)

I'm from Ottawa. I started this post to find any close boat clubs, because the ottawa valley club recently folded. :'(

Are you SURE they folded? I was told they were holding a race Aug 30,31/2003. I know their membership numbers were down however a few members from years gone by are getting back into it.

Thanks ................ Randy

Matt;

I heard that OVR has 'disbanded' from lack of interest. Its pretty sad since they have probably the best setup I have ever seen.

I have been taking with a few other RCers in the Ottawa area who are also very interested in running boats in the area..maybe there can be a re-incarnation of sorts....I hope it would be a little less formal and serious than the previous OVR. (Too much concentration on racing...not as much on plain old fun....very intimidating for new boaters... or people who just go to run and relax)

I don't live in Ottawa anymore...but travel there quite often..so if you guys start something up...please keep us in the loop. I will make a point of coming down with a few boats.

I moved to Ottawa 3 years ago and was a OVR member for two seasons. I am more of a boater than a die-hard racer. Late last season I discovered a pond suitable for running RC boats.

I would like to meet fellow boaters in the area to discuss possibility of a sport boating club.

Kez; (et al in Ottawa Valley area)

If OVR is dead for sure (I've been trying to confirm but no replies to my e-mails)....let's look into starting something up.

I'll try and find out if we can secure the use of their pond...since it really kicks ass...if not...we'll find something else.

You guys are more than welcome to come down to the TO area...and run with us. (nasty road trip though)

The club I run with is on Frenchmans bay....and a few friends and I run 'unoffical' races on Rice Lake. The club is kewl....but mostly gas...so it's an 'apples vs. oranges'.

The races we have on Rice lake are 99% Nitro boats.

We start the season every year with a 'chinese oval' (Is that still politically correct??) which means there are no rules. (If I just offended anyone...my apologies)

Its great fun....but I wouldnt use my favorite or prettiest boat for it!

Guys.

I spoke with an OVR member yesterday (past club secretary) and he said the club is still around and making a come back. They have sent in their forms to IMPBA to be a registered club and to run a sanctioned race for this year.

As far as running these ''unofficial races'', do you guys have insurance? I sure hope you do. If not, you are committing a NO-NO! I'd hate to see an injury to a spectator or participant and have the guilty party loose his house because he was too cheap to pay the $45 US to be an IMPBA member. If you think MAAC is an adequate substitute, think again. Our club took a very close look into MAAC and we now no longer accept them as an insurance coverer.

Many of our 27 (and growing) NORTHERN LIGHTS MBC members in the Toronto area are not all out racers however, if they do run their boat(s) in one of our club ponds, they MUST be IMPBA insured.

My suggestion to you guys is that if you are going to start a club, be sure that your members have IMPBA.

Better safe than sorry .............. Randy

Hi Everyone,

OVR is still around :) , it was touch and go last year, but we now have around 8 registered members.

If anyone is interested, or would like more info you can Drop me an Email at [email protected].

People, In the future please refrain from spreading rumors about clubs disappearing. These rumors can really hurt a small club :'(.

Also, I expect to see all the Ontario racers at our Labour Day weekend Race. ;D

Thanks

Joe;

Count on seeing me there.

As for the rumours.....my fault. Last summer, I was in Ottawa almost every weekend (my girlfriend is on assignment until summer 2003).. and made a point of checking for you guys...but nothing. I then sent a few notes to the e-mail addresses on the website...nothing.

The last thing I want to do is hurt your club. Glad to see you are making a comeback...and I am sure your membership numbers are going up this year.

As for insurance. (non sanctioned racing)

I personally do...but a couple of them don't. We run them in a local river (in a bay) with noone else around....from full size boats. The only possible potential damage would be if a model struck a real boat...in which case...the boat insurance pays. 13 years later...no problems yet.

Racing in public requires insurance..I agree wholeheartedly.
