Hi Guys!

Just got a Sullivan 12/24v starter. Instructions say to set up for left rotation, dissasemble it and rotate the end plates 30 deg. is there anyting wrong with just reversing polarity at the battery clips? ( red to negative?) I realize this would positively charge the outer case and there is the chance of a short .......but will it screw-up the starter??

Hi Bob,

I have a Sullivan 12/24 Dynatron that I use. I'm in a similar situation where I simply flip polarity on the plugs between Outboards and Inboards. I've had this starter for over a year, and haven’t had a problem from simply switching polarity.

I switch leads as well.

I have a starter box with 2 batterys, 12v/ 24v plugs. So if i want 12 i can run 12, if i want 24 i just switch to the other plug. 50 amp grey golfcart plugs. Works well.

12v for glow and pump.

while we're talking starters, I've noticed my black and yellow 'Deluxe Hi-Tork 12v' sullivan has lost some grunt recently. is this due to running it on 24 volts, or do they just wear out after a while? It's a good 7 years old now and has been the best I've had yet. I'm pretty hard on them. any thoughts? thx
