Terry: Olly runs the Aeromarine base on his .60 mono if you want to see one of those. I've run the In-flight needle on several OS carbs and have experianced no ill effects. OS 9b on the .65's and 91's and 40a's on the .45's all with In-flight needles. Great combination for me!

I have done the same as Ron. No problems here.

Bob Morton

I ran an OS inflight needle with an OS 9B carb on my MAC .84 and had nothing but trouble. Found out per AB that it will not flow enough fuel. Switched to the stock carb and CMD valve.

Mike: How much does a Mac .84 need to flow? The OS 9b carb with In-flight needle I had would flow off the top of my meter. Can't imagine any motor needing more than that. If everything is working right the In-flight needle on any motor/carb combination should flow 6-8 points on the third channel adjustment. A good radio will allow you to adjust the amount of throw per "click". Course or fine needle shouldn't make any difference if the seal is good. Besides, the difference between a good and really good needle is only 1/4 to 1/2 point on any flow meter. No need for gross adjustments unless you change oil content or something that changes fuel viscosity dramatically. I'm thinking the fuel inlet might have been the culprit more than the carb or needle valve.

All servo controlled needles that I've used experience the same flow vairation when you touch them. However in real opereation they all work well. I used the BVM for years and we still sell them. As many others we've had problems with the seals going out on rare occasion. We now sell a large number of the CMD needles and they are very reliable.

Until about two years ago we only had the coarse version. It was great for 67 and up, OK for 45's and not good for the 21. Now that we have the fine we use them on the 21 and 45. It will also flow enough for the big engines; just takes more clicks to make a noticable change.

The O.S. needle is great for many engines, but it WILL NOT flow enough fuel for the MAC 67 or 84.

Ron,

Some needles can flow over 10 @ 40 on the flow meter and still not diliver enough fuel at top engine RPM, because of some type of high velocity flow restriction in the needle assembly.

For certain conditions on my MAC 67 and 84 I set the magnahelic @30 or I will be off the flow meter.

Hi

On my 9B carbs I remove the small fuel fitting and replace it with a water cooling fitting. It has a larger ID and longer, which fits the fuel line better than the short stock one.

Hey Mate, any chance you could take a shot of that Aeromarine needle mount and post it, thanks!

Hi TK
Hopefully this is what you want.  Have you found a new home yet?

Thanks partner but I was looking for a shot of the Aeromarine remote mounting unit, junior said you had one in your mono in an earlier post.

Yup, found a perfect shop with a house attached to it, takin' it Dec. 1st. :D

Just for some objective input, the CMD needle is an excellent product. Don was running his D Hydro at SAW and a few of use hypothesized that his needle was causing some error. We would have liked nothing more than that to have been the case so we could joke him until he wanted to go home ( ;) ), but that wasn't the case. The CMD needle met any standards of metering that I can imagine. It was proven at 109.9 mph!

Sorry to hear Don did get the record :( And he just missed a 110 mph patch too.

At least he is consistent. Don has now run 108+ and 109+ with two different boats.

Or is that 110-? lol
