Here ya go. Much shorter than any other combo. So far works great,,, just had a hard time finding a servo arm..... Also found the needle for 17$ I believe at my lhs!!!
Ok so the way your needle looks ya gotta remove the arm to adjust the needle If ya need more adjust than what's in the arm.

Has a set screw its not bad. Loosen screw the arm lowers and twist the needle. Good news is nothing moves unless I tell it. I have enough adjustment to go 1/4 turn each way.

Mark are they as consistent as a OS especially on a 12 boat?
I have tried at least 5 different remote needle brands and configurations with 12 riggers. I have yet to find one that even comes close to the OS AX 46 remote needle (Krog's Photo) When it comes to precise smooth adjustments, they are awesome. When you are adjusting the needle, you can actually hear it change proportionately with every click. It is easy to set up with a third channel if you so desire, and it mounts easily. The only gripe I have with it is the fittings would be better if they had collars on them so the fuel tubing can't slip off. With these remote needle bases, I clamp the fuel line, and if I have to remove the fuel line for any reason, I always wipe any oil off the fittings and cotton swab the inside of the tubing with alcohol before re connecting. This works well.

My 3 cents,

Marty

Kevin,

Does your local hobby shop have anymore in stock?

Can you share the name of your local hobby shop?

I would like to support them.

Thanks,

Hi All,

I am just looking for different ideas on how to mount a 3rd channel needle in a jae .12 . Yes I understand you will have very little adjustment.... is that little bit just too much all together? I have always wanted to try a third channel on a .12..... hate when the boat wont get on the pipe cuz its a click too rich.

if ya got pics that would help alot.

Thank You,

Paul
Gooy,

This works great....

1] Find yourself a stock .262" bore K&B Black carb..... There are about a kazillion out there not being used....The .12s love this carb....

2] Turn a carb neck adapter to fit the inlet of your .12 motor.

3] Cut a piece of 3/16" aluminum , delrin , brass or whatever..lol about an inch long for a needle arm....

4] Drill a .098" hole in the arm and slip the needle through the hole....

5] Drill and tap a set-screw on top of the arm to lock up on the needle to the arm when you are ready to do so........

6] Attach a clevis to the arm and rig to your 3rd channel servo......

7] Now go testing...leaving the arm loose on the needle.....run the boat and find a pretty good needle.....It doesn't need to be perfect....

8] After you find a needle....rotate the third channel servo to half way through its stroke.....

9] Tighten down the set screw and SHAZAAAM you have a 3rd channel adjustment right at the carb....The motor will go full lean or full rich with this system...

The advantage to this system is when you give the command for a needle change it is instantaneous.....

It takes up no room in the boat and fuel tubing length is held to a minimum........and....it is cheap to do...

Note:

I really like the K&B Black , Gold and Red carbs....The needles have a very fine adjustment and the carbs are as good as anything I have ever had on the flow bench....

The only thing I don't like about them is they don't turn 360 degrees......They can be very easily modified to do so.....

mtruex, that looks like the K&B carb from above, but what is the needle/arm setup?

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks for the link Mike. It looks like you could already have the servo set in the middle of its range, manually adjust the needle, then use the 3rd channel from there.... is that a fair assessment?

So I bought a bunch of needles last week to do some checking on the flow meter to see which did not have any big jumps by a small turn of the nob. The best I found was a traxxas one. Its manual. I still was not happy with it but it would do. I want to set mine up with a 3rd at some point but still was not set on a plan. I remembered that I had a 18tz that Rod had built 10 yrs ago for a friend. Dug that out and bingo. One of Rods black carbs was in it. Cleaned it up and put it on the flow meter. Flows awesome. Nice and smooth. Gonna put it in next week as Im packed and ready to go to a race tomorrow. The traxxas will have to do for now.

Martin is right....This O.S. needle assembly works great and will screw directly into the carb body...

The carb body however needs a bit of machine work done to make it function properly.....

About .060" needs to be removed off the needle/fuel fitting mount end of the carb body

so the needle will shut off totally when installed....

Rod..mosquito question, but..youve done enough offhand to know... what are the bore sizes of the black, gold and red kb carbs respectively?.. thanks... Mike

Rod,

So I am putting the O.S. Needle in a Gold Carb and it does not thread into the body of the carb.

What is the thread on the Little Brass piece from O.S. that threads in the body of the carb?

Thanks For The Idea,

Mark Sholund
