Just wondering what everyone is using on their 21 hydros for cowl locks. I would like something lightweight but with a positive "lock". Appreciate any ideas, suggestions or pictures.. Tony J

Tony, check out the ones the Mike has on his site in the Hardware section.

Tony.. Ron is right.... they are good locks.. metal studs and lock plates.. small and light.. easy on and off..

Mike

I wish I had a cowl on my 21! hehehe

I was wondering if velcro would be up to the task? Anyone tried it?

Hey they are the best, easy to work, push to latch and twist to release. You just have to make a small L to mount them to.

Tim i wouldn't try the velcro i have used cowl lock that are a lot stronger and still lost the cowl off the boat .

I really like Andy Browns idea on cowl locksand the Road Runner they used a thin piece of metal bent on a 90 degree its mounted to the side of the hull near the back of the cowl and the 90 bends over the top of the hull to put the cowl on or off you just squeeze the cowl side to side and it fits under the metal brackets.

I would use almuminum or plastic for the brackets

Big B just installed a set on his new 20 boat and they blow me away every time i get to see them in use.. they are just the right part for the job..

Grim

Grim also make's a great cowl lock ;)

He also makes great metel fuel cells that's all i use in my boats the workmanship is second to none B)

Tony,

I'll try and get some pics of how I'm holding my Crapshooter45 cowl down. A couple titanium ball links from the RC car guys, a couple nylon ring clips and a couple O-rings. Very light weight and very secure, too.

Thanks. Brad.

I was using the Grimracer type ones on a cowl in my SG until I dunked it hard one day and the cowl mounts ripped out of the tub - lost the cowl and the mounts all as 1 item (not the cowl clips' fault - rather the builder!)

Thanks for the info on the Velcro - was just thinking out loud so to speak.

PHM - I'm confused as Ian "nitrocrazed" made some comments to me about a cowl - thanks for the offer!

Most of my Stinger hydros used the 90 degree alloy (L shaped extrusion to be precise) and my SG 45 and old Eagle 67 have the same mounts as well. They do work very well.

Tony,

I like the BVM Accessories"Hatch Latch Set #5510.

Its made from Carbon fiber moled nylon. Basically it is a stiff spring loaded latch, pull back to unlock, simple and fast.
