Interesting course of weather events going on. Do we need to "lock the hubs" to get around up there?

Thanks again John and to the crew trying to keep the race schedule on track. Looks like the weather is improving after Sunday so those of us travelling long distances can continue with our travel plans. I'm sure many of the 80 plus racers can't just change their plans for a race 2 weeks later. Tim

My hat's off to this club. To go through this series of weather event's and still put on this event has truly got my respect

Guys,

The club members on late Sunday afternoon totally believed we had the site well enough repaired to still host the race. We know that there is still work that needs to be completed for the race but are committed to doing it.

I went over to the lake this morning. The rain stopped overnight and has either been no rain or a light mist. Not sure what holds for us the next 2 days but the local stations are calling for the system to be gone sometime on Sunday afternoon to evening, if not sooner. Good weather after that.

The areas that we drive on and set up trailers has not been impacted at all. There is no mud but hard and firm ground with grass cover. That property drains extremely well. The canopy areas may be a little soft in some places but I walked on it today and it is good with no standing water.

The local governments called off school and some downtown Charleston business activity due to the common problem of flooding in those areas. The downtown Charleston area is actually below sea level and floods with some rain storms. They expected heavy rain today but it has not happened Hence their call last night to close schools and the government offices in the downtown districts. In my opinion they were overly cautious and ended up not needing this to be done. Other local areas are not affected at all. We have the full moon cycle and it has big gravitational pull which rises the tides. They have been higher than normal which has added to the situation but are subsiding now.

A lot of racers schedule their vacation time for this race and do not have the luxury of changing it to be able to return for another weekend. They have other family plans and races to attend. We have not waivered in our intention of hosting the race. Right now no reason to consider doing so. We are trying to do the best with an adverse situation and still hold this race, a NATIONALS race, and that name means a huge amount.

Open water Wednesday - race on.

Thanks for the update John. You and your club need to be commended on your dedication of this race!

I plan on being there tomorrow with rake and shovel in hand. What ever it takes, I will help do.

Its Amazing you guys dont consider moving the race 2 weeks back. You guys have done a Gallant effort to recover from the Tornado last weekend. We have supported your race & classses. But it is Not Good Practice to Head to a state that the local Goverment & Schools are closed today Due to the local flooding & FEMA is setting Up Now........ My local weather shows you will receive a additional 14-16 inches of Rain in the next 3 days...... This is Just my Opnion.. it is Not a Suggestion. I can handle my own Business.... & decide what i need to do...... Thanks for all you Efforts.. But Mother Nature is in the Lead Coming around Buoy 6.

6 boats charging, charging cranking batter, fuel pump flow meter, and glow plug battery. Checked this am and the trailer is ready in Decatur.

We will thread the needle and blow through the pack in Atlanta Mon morning about 11:00.

Looking forward to a great race. Weather forecast looks outstanding.

Thanks for the hard work!!!!!

John,Anthony....and all members of Charleston Club. Thank you for your efforts. The live broadcast from West Ashley and the Tidal surge have made the decision for me.

More than anything.....for all in that area "Put Your Safety First." I know first hand what can happen, as now I most turn my attention to my home as Joaquin is now heading that way.

Safety first is right i have family in Charleston and myrtle beach they say the flooding is getting pretty bad down there today... Best of luck to you all!!

RACE ALERT TO ALL INCOMING RACERS

I just received a live report from the race site. The area has had heavy rain but the site is draining. However the incoming road is getting messy. So with that happening, and more heavy rain for today, we must give the road some time to drain and dry out.

DO NOT PLAN ON GETTING TO THE RACE SITE UNTIL TUESDAY AT THE EARLIEST. NO MONDAY ARRIVALS NOT EVEN TO DROP TRAILERS. ROAD REPAIRS WILL LIKELY BE DONE ON MONDAY AND WE DO NOT NEED TRUCKS AND TRAILERS COMING IN THEN. IF YOU PLANNED ON COMING IN ON MONDAY, DELAY THEM UNTIL TUESDAY.

I respect anyone's decision to attend or not attend. It is only your decision. However, the hurricane has turned east and we will not get any impact or tidal surges at any time. The weather system that has come in from the gulf is the bigger problem with the rain it has brought in and localized low lying area flooding. Once it passes through late tomorrow, we will be fine for the race. Tuesday on we will be good.

If anyone decides to drop out of the race at this time, please e mail me immediately at [email protected] so I can drop you. I am looking to set up the race and the heat sheets tonight as I will be working at the lake from tomorrow on. No time to do it then.

Do you think a Tuesday morning trailer drop be ok? We will be leaving Monday morning and may not have all of the current news by the time we arrive.

My plan as well meet for lunch ?

Guys,

I do believe it should work for Tuesday, the more time you give it the better. Maybe do like Tom noted, meet him for lunch and come over after that. There appears to be a break coming tomorrow afternoon. Possibility a following line of showers may come in on Monday but who knows for sure at this point. All I can ask is to be patient with this situation. The National Weather Service has noted this storm system coupled with the hurricane pushing rain into this funnel is a 1 in 500 year event. And that is a week after a tornado. Nothing like I have ever seen. Tuesday on looks very good and dry now.

John

If you think Tuesday would be better, just give the word, and I will be there early.
