Lets talk facts:
In 2009, PMBC was asked by your IMPBA president to sit down with your Nitro Director and discuss changes to the 2010 format. Not to bring up old news but, PMBC was to do the 2010 event, not the 2009, but took a shot to keep it from not happening in 2009. Doing this and working closely with your president and nitro director, we put together a slightly changed format that:
1 does not change any of the current nitro classes or US-1 format
2 added some popular gas classes (that ran for US-1 before in the IMPBA)
3 added a long overdue nitro class in Sport B Tunnel (yes, a special board meeting would be needed) Per your rule book, can be called by the President and approved for a one year trial rule. One of the most popular nitro classes out there (why is it not US-1 now)
Due to adding additional classes and possible amount of entries (yes a possible maximum count was placed, with the option to change as needed). Carefully calculating how much time we had to work with and how many events we could run in that time. Offering all nitro classes as in the years before, knowing that some of the classes will not fill, making many more additional spots available for the more popular classes. Which means the chance of someone being turned down would be very unlikely. The event was calculated running six boat heats and even though I'm not a fan of it, can be bumped to 8 if needed.
4 the only other change was to place Novice, RTR, and the Night Race into possible voids during the week. This would also give me, as the contest director, some leeway to move things around in case of weather problems. As there is no time or space for special event classes as in years ago, but PMBC believes that the Novice and RTR drivers, makeup the future of the IMPBA and have to be run. The Night race, is just a great time.
5 due to the addition classes, we would have to run three two day groups, unlike the two groups as in the past and have them run their oval trials on the second day of each group. Did this in 2009, worked well, and was a big time saving factor. Also broke up the almost two straight days of timed events (to some, compares to watching grass grow) Sorry, face it heat racing is wild and exciting where time trials may not be for the fans.
As CD, my biggest wish was to get all this planning done, please the powers, and get this out as quick as possible to you the racers.
All with working within our current (sorry to say outdated and incomplete rule IMPBA book) Do you who are so quick to beat up clubs, board members, and each other know that Sport 40 is not a US-1 class per your rule book. Yes, it was rumored to be voted in, but mistakenly never added to the book)
As the host club, who was planning on putting the countless hours into hosting this event for you, I say thanks.
We been accused of holding the changes in ransom.
Quiting on a commitment to our fellow members to host the race.
Trashed by people who I thought we're my friends.
I thought this would all be handled by the first of January, and also very surprised that it's not.
Do we run it as we did in 2007. Old format, let gas run in special event classes if there is time.
Do we try the changes and see if it has a future, knowing that more changes maybe needed in the years after.
Or do we, as the IMPBA membership not the club, cancel the 2010 International Regatta for a complete overhaul.
You tell me people, but please quit beating up myself or my club of hard working members.
Thanks,
Mike Laing
