I know u didn't say

I'm not saying CMB motors are not good absolutely.
that Gill , its just that in europe the problem is more the crankpins , not the conrods .
Hopefully Cmb will solve the problem soon ,

Bart

The crankpin problem on the CMB 45 EVO2/2 and 45RS is only on our gear drive motors. Direct drive in a rigger or mono seems to be no problem. Our geardrive engines in FSRV boats have to do a lot of work. We don't seem to have a problem with 45 conrods or needles on the EVO2/2 or RS45.

dave marles, can you make a comment on the bearings brian is talking about, before this thread get too far out of hand please. thanks in advance.

Hey Tim D, I sent You an E-mail that had a dirty word in it , and I don't know if it's gonna get through to

you or not. Jerry

Jerry,

No email sorry - my email server rejects bad words  If you need to send those sort of things use the email address in my profile. B)

The MAC 45 uses the same non Swiss bearing that are in the Problematic 2004 CMB 45. Never a broken rod in the MAC 45. If too much bearing clearence is really the problem then the rod will break a little later when the"better" Swiss bearing gets a little worn.

The MAC 45 does not use the same rod as the CMB 45.

We had a full run of engines where CMB did not cut enough clearence into the crankcase for the bottom of the rod. The rod would hit the bottom of the case so hard that steel would be dug off the bottom of the rod. However, never a broken rod caused by this situation either.

What I'm saying is, if you go out and spend more money by replacing the stock bearings with Swiss bearings you will just end up with a more expensive broken engine.

I think the problem is only the rod and nothing else.

Andy, thanks for the reply. How much clearance should there be between the bottom of the rod and the grove in the case? At lease a ball park number. With the replacement CMB, I did notice that it looked as if someone went into the case to make the groove deeper. I was wondering if that was the problem. The CMB is a backup motor to the MAC.

Brian
