I have just purchased a 1980 Oberto hull that someone started and didn't finish. It is 28" long. Is this 1/10 scale. I've never built an electric boat before and I'd like some suggestions about what motor to put in it and what batteries to buy. I'll also take any suggestions about where to buy my supplies.

Thanks

That hull in 80 was 29 feet long so a 1/10th would be 34.8 inches long

It is about 12.5 scale

A heap of 4S lipo battery combinations should work well in that boat - it all depends on if you want to race it or use it as a sport boat.

For sport running an Aqucraft motor/ESC combination would work well, or an 8XL motor and suitable speed control. offshoreelectrics has heaps of stuff that would be good.

If you use either of the above motors, then a 4S 5000 mAh lipo should work well. 22C or greater. rclipos has a good range and excellent service.

Let us know what application the boat is for, and you'll probably get a few more suggestions.

Cheers,

Scott

As far as I know, no body around Madison In runs electric, so I will have no one to race against. But I do want it to go fast. I was on the ercu web page and they use a Himax 3630-1500. Is this to much motor for this boat? I also no nothing about speed controls so i will need help choosing the right one.

Thanks for all you input...

Well I guess the electric guys have all their info marked TOP SECRET. No room for a gasser to break into the battery powered relm. I'll just buy a 21 nitro engine and be done with it...
