Hey Guys,

Well, the building is starting and I'm looking for engine info.

Don, you said your using Fantom now and I think that's my choice as well, could you give me an idea of what flywheel to get and where from? I plan on getting the one with a pull start, side exhaust and rotary carb. What pipe or muffler device should I get? Fuel cell size? (ounces) I also plan on running a .130 flex, any coupler and prop recomendations?

Sorry for the Q's but I have zip for experiance with this stuff.

Thanks, Paul.

BTW: I'm not sure which pond the MI race will be on, I know it's not by the cabins.

Paul:

Ron runs the fantom.

My boat has an O.S. .12TR W/10M Rotary Carb-(Not pull start) $129.99 (Rear Exhaust)

#1D O.S. Flywheel $13.49

Associated 180 degree manifold #LXCK P3, P4, OR P5, Depending on what color you want. $13.79

Macs Marine tuned pipe 2.5/10-15 engines $27.99

Probably not the fastest but a safe and easy set up. All of the above are available on the net at Tower Hobbies. I use the Octura 5mm Hex/flex for the .130 cable. Can't rember what the tank holds but will get back.

Props-Octura V937, 1640, Prother 215 just to name a few of what a lot of people are trying.

Hello Guys,

Don, thanks for your setup info. Sorry about the mix-up with Ron.

Well, I was going through my "stuff" box and can't belive what I found! I had picked up a nitro Freedom RZ once (wanted the hull) and it came with an outboard that was supposed to be setup with a pull start buggy motor. Long story short, I now have an engine mount, fuel cell and holder, (Du-Bro S-4) and a small aluminum flywheel that looks like the ones found on an OB. (cone shaped with threads) I'm guessing this stuff should work out okay because it was designed for the same size engine. This stuff sound usable to you guys?

Thanks for the help, Paul.

You got to love this! All these great answers from me and I dont even know if it floats.

You should be able to use or adapt most of the parts. The motor is a slug though, that boat did somewhere around a whoppin' 17 MPH.

Don's list of parts are pretty much what most of us are using. His choice of engine and pipe setup is what Wade has.

Hello Ron,

I'm planning on picking the Fantom engine up which is why I was asking about your setup in the post above.

Recap;

Ron, you said your using Fantom now and I think that's my choice as well, could you give me an idea of what flywheel to get and where from? I didn't get the motor with the Freedom, just the hull and lower unit. I put a direct drive FE setup in it and it ran about 30mph for 4 minutes.

Thanks, Paul.

I'm using Traxxas headers on the side exhaust motors, a 90 degree bend and also bent slightly upwards for motors that are tilted downwards. Mac tuned pipe right now set up at 6-3/4" from the glow plug to the divergent/convergent cone. I'm using the O.S. flywheel right now but on #2 that I'm starting on soon (maybe yet tonight), I have one from a ProBoat Miss Bud that is smaller in diameter. I do have some others that I will be messing with this year also.

Grimmy made our fuel cells which are just a hair under 4 oz. so you can get plenty of run time out of the SS-4.

You should be able to have any decent Hobby Shop order the flywheels for you. The O.S. is available through Tower Hobbies.

Here is a shot of my Wild Thing .12 with the Fantom side exhaust in it. The rear exhaust motor is going back into the 'rigger.

If you need some other pix, I can do them now, I FINALLY got a digital camera.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the info! Does the Fantom engine come with the header or do you get that seperate with the pipe?

Paul.

Sorry, the Fantom doesn't have a header. As a matter of fact, they don't have a header. They do sell a tuned pipe though but it's real heavy because it's made of steel. Not too many Manufacturers sell a header with their motors unless it's a special piece.

One little tip, if you turn the carb around so the the throttle arm is on the left side, you'll want to take a Dremel and remove part of the bottom heat sink so that you can adjust the idle screw. You'll see what I mean.

His choice of engine and pipe setup is what Wade has.
that is pretty close. I have an OS .12TR/PT. & i have an associated pipe. I plan on cetting a couple of different pipes for it until i find one that really works well.

I still need to get it finished though.

this is all the further i have gotten.
