2 questions,

1 : what is a good racing mono hull in the 40" to 50" range?
2: which type of drive for that boat, subsurface or surface?

I guess the main question would be, what are you going to power the boat with?
Gas, Nitro, FE?
The best one place to cover all of those power options would be
SeaDucer Boats
Visit there site at seaducerboats.com

Ì went there after your first response. Looking at either the 49 or 47 mono. What drive would you recommend, subsurface or surface?
As said below, Jerry offers on his site the assembly, setup instructions for each of his boats.
Follow them to the T including his recommended hardware and you will have a good running/fun boat (if your power plant is up to par)

Almost every mono these days are set up with a surface drive including all of Jerry’s boats except his Cracker Box. I don’t know of anyone (manufacturer) setting up a mono today sub surface except maybe in a specialized class like Cracker box but that has more to do with rules. Surface drives are always faster in the straight-a-way but subsurface can aid some in handling through the corners. That problem is usually solved with a surface drive boat by hanging a huge meat cleaver of a turning off the back.

But again, I would do as stated above and follow the manufacturer’s instructions with whomever’s boat you go with.
