Hey Dude, remembered you raced slots,

Found some pics of the car like the one I won so many races back round 1970,

Classic Manta Ray, I drilled my chassis and had full bearings,

AJ's slicks, narrow O ring fronts, 3 ohm controller,

And a couple shots of the new stuff present day,

Guess they havent changed that much!!!!

That brings back memories B) No local tracks here any more :( I threw away a lot of my slotcar stuff last year when I moved house.

EMS is still a slotcar fiend.....

I still have some of my stuff from the 60's and then I picked it up gain in the 80's and still have that stuff. We had about 6 tracks locally in the 80's but they all went away.

Brings back alot of memories.

I will try to find some pictures of my racing days.

Slot racing was saved by a bunch of track owners that got together and said NO MAIL ORDER.... it worked and the guys that made the investment (track) were the guys selling the parts.

Here is a few Grim Slot notes.

I was north central USRA pres for one year.

I took 7th at the usra nats (box stock 15) in 1996 (I won coucours for the class)

I drove for Ron Hersman for one season (Fast Ones)

I produced a local TV program called Scale Model Racing and have hours of video footage. (this also included RC racing, cars and boats)

I have been a sot car nut for 30 years but only began racing in 1992.. i was done and had had enough by 1997.. I still have my HO cars and stuff. The local 1/24 scale track is still in town but taken apart and placed in storage. the HO track (this is a killer 21 century 63 footer) is now owned by a private person in town..

Last notes:

The cars are great and the racing can be super…but the people that do it.. I will be blunt… there fastholes.. My slot car racing days taught me some real life lesions about what I DO NOT WANT out of competition..

After racing boats for the last 10 years I have learned that you can not find a better group of people.. Its boat racing or no racing for me..

Yeah this was just a "Blast from the Past" for me, I havent seen a 1/24 Mantaray in thirty years :D

Then Classic came out with the Asp, a tiny 1/32 inline chassis and blew me outta outta the running

We had three tracks local, and one stayed open till bout two, three years ago, But they all gone round here now,

Hey,

I am an old slot car dude too, from 1979-1981 I was a slot car track owner operator. I rented part of a pool hall/arcade and set up an American raceway Black track.

Most of the R/C guys I hang out with today originated from the slot car days.

Mike

We had a 92' dads track (custom) and a 63' HO 21 century 4 lane..

Our tracks are now out of the loop and i do indeed have fond memories of those days. Unfortunately when you are racing with guys like Alpha gang and the cast of slotholes from Koford you have the cream of the crop.

I really hate to speak bad about the good old slot days but as it goes it was not all that much fun.

Now.. having said that Jody Green.. dam fast and one hell of a nice guy. lucky Bob.. hell of a nice guy and fun to hang with.. and there were others too.

Its the bad that i remember the most however.

I am amazed sometimes how many of us did the same stuff in our younger days ;)

Dats KEWL Beans in my book

Gener :D

Gener,

You know that is cool stuff.. I think that we are the type of guys that like to tinker and test, make something better and then try to see if we can make it payoff in some way..

For me its trying to win races.. you.. test and be the fastest you can be.. for Mike P its the master of glass..

As i see it we are really quite the same..

On another note:

When it comes to building i got all my building expertise from building rubber power planes.. If you want a real challenge.. not only build a rubber power plane (say a peanut scale 13" wing or less) and make it fly for over one minuet.

Talk about a lost art or diminishing art..

YEA..... I saw a vid channel surfin the other nite, They hung in the air forever seems like, neat idea.

Then there was the time Dad caught me modding the Wheel Horse tractor, Hyd trans and I reshimmed it for more power to the axle, it was a mowin fool till the line blew  And of course Dad was mowin at the time

The pump was right under the seat!!!

Well ya get the idea

He,He,

Gene :D
