Are FE boats allowed? I heard it is a 30 min race with pit stops and 3 driver teams using the same boat? Are you running 30 min straight or say 10 minute stages allowing a retrieve of dead boats. I would hate to own the dead boat that dunks 3 minutes in and becomes a course hazard for 27 minutes.

As long as John Knight is not making them up as you go.. you should be good..........LOL

I am sure I could change to a full tank in the same time you can change a battery.. Cowls need to be used?

I would vote for 3 stages (10min) BUT.. if you dump your boat you miss the next stage.

Sounds like fun making up rules for this..LOL

Its only double vision with both eyes open...:D

Three red boats in one heat all at the start.. LOL.. I will never live it down.

I took heat for that.... and the KARMA stepped in.

Out of all the people at the race.. at least I was one of the guys WILLING to help up there.. I would do it again. Lots of people worked hard at that race..

I should not have mentioned John. That was not fare of me.. we did have a bad racing experience dew to his leadership but time heals all.. I hope he is having a good retirement.

I will leave that there...

The idea of a endurance race does sound like fun. I Have done RC car off road races that were 4 hours long. they were a BLAST! Took some engineering to get it done!

Sounds cool...can anyone answer Mic's question(s)? The race link isn't 'clickable' yet, and I've yet to find any details about what exactly this Endurance race is. Anyone have any info?

From the SOWEGA Facebook page:

The Endurance Race that will be associated with the World Tunnel Championships is on rcracingevents. We will not take entries until March 20. The rules will be posted below. Please make sure you understand the rules. ONLY THE TEAM LEADER WILL SIGN UP. Team Leader, please make sure you have a dedicated team before signing up!

Endurance Race

We will hold an Endurance Race during the World Tunnel Championships. The rules are as follows:

● 30 minute race duration.
● Run as many laps as possible in this 30-minute time.
● You may use any nitro or gasoline powered outboard tunnel boat for this race.
● There are no fuel tank size restrictions.
● You must have a 3 person (minimum) team.
● Each team will have a dedicated lap counting person that is NOT a team member.
● Normal 2 minute mill clock will be used to start the race.
● The official 30 minute clock will start at the end of the standard mill time.
● ALL buoy cuts are to be considered a lap penalty.
● You must make two mandatory Pit Stops (minimum) during the 30 minute race.

Pit Stop Details are as follows:

Engines must be turned off. Boat must be placed on a stand/table before restarting. You may
refuel your boat if needed and there will be a mandatory driver change at this point. Once you
are back in the water, you run as many laps as necessary before you make another Pit Stop, that
must include; engine off, boat on stand/table, refuel if necessary and a mandatory driver change
to the 3rd member of the team.
All 3 members of the team MUST complete at least one lap
each. A dedicated pit boss will monitor each pit stop. You MAY repair any damage or make
adjustments during your pit stops.
● If something happens and you are dead on the water, you are out of the competition.
● All dead boats will be retrieved at one time, when the race is over. Positive floatation is a MUST.
● The team with the most completed laps at the end of the 30 minute mark will be the winner.
● There will be only one winning team.
● If no teams make it to the 30 minute mark, the team to finish the most laps will be declared the
winner.
● $30.00 a team / 6 Teams
● Team Leader will be the only one to register the team.

Grimacer,
When we were at Markham Park in '06 for NAMBA NATS
Was their format first to 100 laps, driver change every 10 laps?

So as the rules are written, no FE boats and only one boat retrieval at the end of the 30mins.

I would think the organisers are good people and would listen to suggestions about tweaking the rules :)

Pretty keen to see this action go down thats for sure...as well as the night race!

It will be a full/straight 30 minute race. Your boat goes dead on lap one, it floats for 30 minutes until the race is over. You’d be better off if you didn’t go dead.

we didn’t include electric due to the 30 minute length, but I’m sure we could make modifications to allow it. The pitting rules would remain the same essentially.

I wrote the rules above along with Julie Gilley. This is similar to the endurance race we ran many years ago at one of the first tunnel champs race, with a few tweaks.

That is standard for namba nats. Usually there are 2 marathons. A nitro and gas. Depending on the turn out. Team of 4. 2 drivers / 2 pit. 2 boats. Complete 10 laps and then change driver/boat. A clip must be transfer from boat to boat. All buoy cuts are lap pentalties. These will be made up on the last set of 10 laps. First to 100 laps wins.
