I never built this style of plug or tested it.  Jim Allen did build a slightly different version where the idea was to see if a surface discharge plug made a difference.  I know he tested it in his Quickdraw with the pictured toroidal head button, but he died before I heard any results.  The toroidal head button definitely improved power.  A surface discharge plug allows the spark to be very close to the piston if desired.


By the way, we have run plugs without the factory washer.  That trick is used in karts and both increases the compression slightly and moves the spark closer to the center of the combustion chamber.  I don't have any dyno comparisons, but I remember it working well.
