Phil,

I get all of my carbon fiber tubes from Lone Star Balsa in Dalllas. Comes in many sizes and lengths. Cut to fit. If you want them already cut and drilled you can get them from CMD. I have too many boats and get them in quantity and cut them to fit.

Link is: www.lonestar-models.com

Thanks for the tip, John. What is the best way to secure them? The plans for the Hawk uses sponson tube blocks.

Phil :D  :)

try acp-composites.com. look for fiberglass tubes. if they are for a 21 rigger get the .394" diameter tubes and for the sponson tubes, i use 5/16 diameter aluminum tubes with a wall thickess of .049" Hope this helps.

Pennywise,You can buy the carbon fiber tubing from Hub Hobby or Hobby Warehouse in all sizes. As far as the blocks Im not sure if your talking the metal brackets that hold the tubing inside the hull or what. The hawks plans show a small block and metal bracket clamping the tubing to the inside of the hull thus having some adjustment up or down with shims. Is this the piece your talking about? Some epoxy the tubes to the hull and slide a smaller tube inside and either clamp or put a screw through the tube to adjust in or out.The clamps are available from Powersurge Racing and Im sure he can set you up with the tubing also,Mikes a great guy to deal with give him a call or Email him.Is this for your class project you were working on?

That stuff sounds like it would work well. It is for my school .21 Hawk based rigger. The blocks I think are wood and hav 3 set screws that secure the tubes. I looked for a while for powersurge racing, but couldnt find a site, do they have one?

Thanks,

Phil ;) :)

And here I thought "powersurge" came from Mike eatin' too many baked beans.... :p

I've got some CF rod in 3/16" diameter and can cut it to length for easier shipping. We used 3/16" I.D. brass tubing for the sponsons and tub with 7/32" Du-Bro wheel collars.
